Most people need something to believe in. Many of the atheists that I know believe in something, like marxism or the market economy or open source software.

Personaly, I try to keep as skeptical as possible, even when it comes to issues where I have a strong emotional bias such as Linux vs Windows. It is important to be aware where your biases are, though. If you can;t get rid of them.

There is a difference between spirituality and religion, though. Religion is organized belief. Even if spirituality is good in some ways, I think religion is mostly bad since it serves to divide people.

Even if one does not belong to an organized religion, one cannot escape the influence of the Bible on American life. The Bible affects every aspect of our daily lives. The Judeo-Christian faith formed this country and our society. Your question on what makes one good is a result of Biblical tradition. Good and evil have no meaning to a true atheist, just like the primacy of humans over other animals. A human is no more valuable to a true atheist than a cockroach. Morals, since they come from God, have no meaning to a true atheist. As you question your faith, imagine what the world will be like without belief in God.

'Religion' is many times meaningless ritual and a set of rules and regulations that the inherits ignore. SO NO! People do not need 'religion' as a guide for their lives but people do need an ethical system. Where they find this system is up to them.

No, we don't need religion to guide our lives....we all have our own solid values and hopefully, good morals. I do think, however, that there are some people that religion helps them stay on the "right" path and that has to be a good thing.

Organized religion is just another form of big business.

We don't need religion to guide our lives...we need a sense of human decency, respect for the sanctity of all living creatures, a personal moral compass, and an intense spirituality to guide our lives. -RKO-

religion is true way of living life blissfully,it has nothing to do with any denomination, since it is very much secular and individual,is true love for all ,but some people not knowing what the religion exactly is push blames on socities/cultures,where as discovering oneself provides prudence for shaping the life.

If people used the Bible to guide their lives, this would be a better world. What in the Bible isn't good for us to use as guidance?

No religion MAKES anyone good. There are good and bad people that belong to all faiths, including atheism. Don't get me wrong, there are good ideas in all religions. What's screwed them up is proselytizing and pushing the "my God's better than your God" crap............

Yes. Religion if followed in its true sense( devoid of confrontational postures and fights) bestows peace of mind and happiness in general.
