Yes, speeding tickets are considered moving violations and are frowned upon by insurance industry actuaries. That said, if your rates go up significantly, I would recommend shopping around - and let your current company know you are doing so. Some agents will find a way to cut your premiums to keep you as a customer if they know you are looking to go elsewhere. When you apply for insurance with some companies, they will ask if you have had any accidents in the last 5 years. Some will ask you if you've had any moving violations - they are just assessing your risk. You might be surprised to discover that some companies don't penalize you as much as others for tickets - for the sake of remaining competitively priced.

All in all, your rates should not go up tremendously...but you may notice a bump in premium on your next renewal notice.

Sounds to me like you didn't smile big enough to the officer.

It seems that the age of 25 has a lot to do with the insurance premiums & statistics of accidents, driving speed, etc. Especially for males. Also the fact that you may not be married. Apparently the fact that a person is married & over the age of 25 makes them more responsible people not likely to be speeding.

Hopefully your driving record is clean enough before this ticket that your insurance won't go up.

dint worry about it.... one speeding ticket wont do anything to your insurance. Unless it's for a speed of over a certain limit, then some states have different criteria on how that speeding ticket is labeled. Like in some states, if you speed over a certain limit (say 20-30 miles over the limit) then its a requirement that you make a courtroom visit vs just sending in the payment via mail.

no it will most likely not i had 3 in 3 years and my insurance only went up 20 dollars and that was after the second one the third one didnt change it at all. i would not worry about it. you could probably get it reduced to a equipment failure issue if your that worried about it. but i would not even worry about it. my tickets were also for more over than yours are. i had a 11 over 13 over and a 15 over. i did go to a class to get both of the higher one reduced they put me on probation for a year on each. so i had to be very careful for while until they dropped off.

No. Typically it takes a charge of 15+ over the limit before insurance companies notice.

Yes, it will, but you can take a driving course that will remove the points from your license and keep your insurance down. Some good online ones can be found at www.AmericanSafetyCouncil.com and www.SafeMotorist.com. Hope this helps and good luck!

The insurance company likely won't find out about it (though you are supposed to tell them.)

If they do find out, at your age you're probably looking at a 20 percent surcharge for a few years.

DON'T change companies for another five years, as you will have to declare the ticket.

I don't know where you live, but in Canada speeding has nothing to do with your insurance. If you get enough points on your license though, you can lose it.
