My husband is only 23 and has severe lower back pain, sometimes he almost falls from a shoot of pain -- the pain comes and goes. His dad has back pain and had it when he was young too -- his sister (33) also does. The doctors keep telling both him and his sister that they are "too young" for back pain and there's nothing wrong with them.

Is there anyone else who is "too young" for back pain who has found a doctor who will seriously look into it? Is anyone else in this situation?

I started having back pain when I was 16. Had to do with scoliosis. This book helped tremendously:

His "shoot of pain" that makes him almost fall is quite familiar to me. Get this book for him as soon as possible, before some idiot doctor tries surgery on him. It's a life saver... cheap too.

'nuff said?

My father had sorta the same problem when he was younger and the doctors told him the same thing, that he was too young to have that condition. All i can tell you is that you keep looking around until you find someone who will take your concerns seriously. Don't give up in your struggle to find a Doctor who will be just as concerned as you are, they are out there. My father btw was diagnosed later in life as having Parkinson's Disease, a disease the doctors said he was "too young" to have but he had it. So stick to your guns, become an evil psycho if you have too. Two generations with the same problem, someone needs to give you answers! Good Luck

I disagree with the individual who instructed you to hold God out of it. God is real robust and He will support you via something. I not ever performed any of the ones matters you stated so you'll be able to say that I do not have an understanding of what you are going via... But I've visible it taking place all over. You are real robust that you simply wish to stick sober, hold combating!! People are not the equal whilst they're top or inebriated, they do dull matters that might result in a terrible lifestyles. Find new events or take a category. Talk along with your loved ones and ask them for support despite the fact that they might not be that supportive. But particularly, think in God and His powers. He is the purpose we're all right here at present and He can support you... He will support. Pick up a Bible and browse. It real is helping. Stay committed to him and pray... You will come to be greater. Keep your head up peculiarly on unhappy days and don't forget, any person in the market regularly has it worse than you, a minimum of you're creating a change via fitting sober. Keep at it!! :)

He probably needs to go see an OT (preferably one who specializes in pain management) - or at least another doctor. I had back pain brought on by mismanaged lifting at work when I was 22 - I worked with upholstery fabric, which comes on bolts that can weigh anywhere from 10 to 100 pounds, and you could sometimes not tell which it was going to be before lifting - luckily, I had a doctor who referred me to an OT and I learned how to adjust my lifting and had some back-strengthening exercises given to me that I still do so we nipped it before permanent damage was done.

Considering the trends in the past ten years (getting rid of lockers, heavier class loads, excess stress on high school students, etcetera) I think they are going to see severe back pain, including things like herniated discs, in younger and younger patients. Just because it wasn't usual to see 20-somethings with back pain before absolutely does not mean that it doesn't occur - and it's irresponsible of that doctor to say that!

If it's a genetic defect... I guess he can't be too young for back pain. I'd switch doctors and have an x-ray done to be sure. Assuming that he is in shape and his stomach muscles are in good shape... is he just a wuss when it comes to aches and pains?
