Long term laxative use can damage the colon. With damage from long term laxative abuse, the colon may fail to function
entirely. This is laxative dependency. With prolonged use of laxatives a number of serious problems may arise such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances, damage to other organs, and syndromes resembling colitis. Do not quit taking cold turkey, come off of them slowly or face major health risks.

Long term laxative abuse effects all muscles and organs since you are depriving the body of proper nutrients. Yes over use will give you symptoms of IBS. You need to see a doctor ASAP.

When using laxatives, youse stomach musles are note being used and your stool literally becomes liquid, thus no need to use your stomach musles as much.

When abusing laxatives over a long period of time, eventually, your stomach musles will become lazy and will have a hard time doing the "do" on its own, something that should come naturally, which in the long run, can lead to other health problems.

Remember, anything done in excess is mostly harmfull.... not matter how innocent it is.....

if you are constantly taking laxatives you seriously need to seek some help. the long term effects can be pretty horrific (they can cause major prolapses), so yes i think that if you're starting to get stomach problems then this is a sign that you are seriously damaging yourself, please talk to somebody about it. there's help out there!!

Not necessarily.
Is this a prescription? If so go to your doctor. If you are taking this by yourself this could be as sign of abuse, so you may have to stop.
In any case you may do well to consult someone...
