Money is important to us today because
1. the media has shown us what we WANT -
Growing up with things like MTV Cribs and The Fab Life of... you get pushed into this culture that only a select few people are actually able to afford creating more of a want for those high price items.

2. Everything you do or want to do requires money
It isn't that hard to figure out that inflation is causeing a major problem today. Prices for things are going up and people are requiring more and more money to just get by - but they are not getting in so they have to base so many decisions around money and what money can and can't do for them.

In fact, money is becoming less important than ever. Credit has almost replaced money -- those little pieces of plastic are what we use for most major purchases, and many minor purchases. Money was (is) important as a unit of exchange. If we didn't use money, we would have to find some other item to use, or we would be back in a bartering society, where you had to exchange a loaf of bread to get three eggs to trade for shoe repairs etc. Money simplified that. But with the advent of the credit card, physical money isn't really necessary any longer, except for minor purchases.

If you have no money, you're nothing and you cannot live in this world. We move everyday with money. If you have no money, you'd better live in a remote area wherein money is not important. You can live by hunting, fishing. Just a simple life. But you can not live in the city.

"Money" is the ability to negotiate, trade and barter for a better life. As seen in india caste system, moeny/power is the root to poverty alleviation. However, moeny is a double edge sword, one side serves to alleviate poverty, the other serves to destory if wrongly used.
