I'm afraid u cannot get get rid of manic depression as it is a long term mental illness and there is no permenant cure available. However u can control manic depression with the correct anti-psycotics and coming to terms with the fact that you have this condition.Your information is very limited and u dont mention whether or not u suffer episodes of psychocis.
You sound rather depressed at present therefore may i suggest that u pay a visit to your Doctor or Psychiatrist and let them know EXACTLY how u are feeling at present..Anti-psycotics unfortunately have many underisable side effects but the *pro's and con's* of the medication have to be weighed up the advantantages against the disadvantages. The exact dosage of the drug has to found and maintained with frequent reviews as ocassionally the drug may need to be altered in dosage or even changed.
You can only find a way to accept this illness usually through counselling and get on with your life. Do not let this condition control you, you control it. Never loose sight of the fact that although u may suffer from manic depression u are still the same person u always were. Mental illness is far more common than you may think and pyschiatric wards are at bursting point.
To have been more help i would have liked a little background information. However, going off your question i would most certainly have a chat with your dr or psychiatrist as soon as possible. The is a chance that the anti-psycotic dosage u are on may be too high/low or maybe even your psychiatrist may wish to try some other medication. Please do not give up hope as with the correct medication and support when u need it YOU CAN LEAD A NORMAL LIFE.
Unfortunately though, there is NO cure for manic depression (Bi Polar) only acceptance and the best control available for u.
Wishing u all the very best both now and for the future.

I do not know about this. I do know that if you self medicate things will get worse. Do not see just any Dr. This is a disease that you are going to have try and think. Research places that can help you witht this. Please do not drink alcohol or pain killers.
That will fool you into a false sense of security.
You must get a friend that is drug free, and somewhat level headed. Someone u can trust with your life, because you might be.
With the correct med and therapy you can lead a normal life.
I know all this because i been there and done that. I did me a few pain killers the other day with a shot of bourbon.

Bad decision!!!!!!! Now is have to go through about 2 weeks or more with my therapist.

I bet you are a very "A" type personality. Find a therapist with a good rep. Then let the therapist refer u to a DR. Please be very honest with the therapist. I promise they have heard it all.
I Have had heart sugery, Hodgkins, Lymphoma, and now Cronic Leukemia. Chemo, radiation and a lot of surgery's. I did not get deppressed untill i had been in remession for 5 years.
I tell u this to say that depression is just as life threatning as any thing i have mentioned. Get professional help. Make sure you have a stable friend to help you. You can not beat this by yourself.
I am sorry that this is the only advice i can give, but it is not wrong advice. Yahoo answer is no place to be looking for help.
When u get help know the med's very well.
Ask the Dr. any questions u may have,
Make a list of you questions before u go.
Sart a journal today, it will help u and your therapist.
Write down when u got up, what u ate that day, did u do and drugs, what did u read, what did u watch on t.v. how long on your computer.

You can't it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Frustrating but once you find a medication which most people take several before they find one that works for them. Being medicated gives you less episodes and a more functioning normal life. Herbs and such is not going to work these are real problems that must be treated as a serious chronic illness just like diabetes or heart problems or high blood pressure. Do not be ashamed that your body has a glitch most people have some glitch you just may not know. Good luck see your doc

Are you going to a therapist/ doctor? Because he/she is the only one who can give you the best of advices. We´re talking about an illness here so there´s no recipe, if you know what I mean. For what I know bipolar people are bipolar forever, there´s no cure but medication. Get some professional help, please. Good luck.

Lithium?
I always thought that was a pretty standard medication for people who are bipolar

Stop taking drugs, have a balanced diet with plenty of fresh and live foods, lots of alkaline foods, stay away from food additives of any kind. See an NLP practitioner to re-integrate your conflicted parts of your personality.

You might never be able to rid yourself of it because it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. With the help of Lithium you can control it.....don't think about it.... It's not all bad.
