Because, wheelcahirs are designed to move slowly, not to mention that most of the people using this could hardly move their legs to operate the pedal, due to medical reasons. Safety of the user is the paramount importance in the design of the wheelchair.

I don't know about wheel chairs, but in a recent BBC TV play the lady who was paralysed had a bike/chair designed and she operated it by turning the pedals with her hands, I think the play was called Footsteps in the Snow, with Caroline Quentin playing the lead role. Maybe you could contact the BBC and see if it is possible to purchase such a machine or if was just made specially for the play. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Sounds like a great idea at first but usually the person sitting in the wheelchair is there because they either have weak or paralysed legs. How are they supposed to pedal it?

they cant!

Good question, as not everyone who has a disability that stops them from using their legs. They probably were thought of but found that most of the potential users were unable to peddle because of their disability i.e. not able to use their legs. But that does not mean there isn't a demand for such a thing as I know people who use wheelchairs as they lose their balance when standing up.Nothing wrong with their legs.

I'm sure you must be joking. Wheelchairs are mostly for people who cannot use their legs. How would they pedal? By hand?

They have. I used to see one when I was a kid - except of course that the pedals were up in front and operated by the hands.

Der! because people in wheelchairs are too poorly to move their legs!
It would be called a bike anyway, one of those lay down bikes

Oh I see. Who is the next group of people you want to make fun of. Perhaps parents who have just buried their young child. Would you go up to a group of handicapped people and ask your question? If you are not human enough to ask it to the group your making fun of. Then you know its not funny to anyone who has a heart and a soul.

that has made me smile. thank you! although the answer is rather obvious. as a rule people in wheelchairs have limited use of their legs.
