Umm, were you not aware of how a pastor gets paid? They are paid according to yes, the year tithes, and the number of the congregation.

After all, a pastor of a congregation of 200 people and about $1000 a month in tithes cannot expect to make the same as someone like Ed Young, who is the senior pastor of a congregation of hundreds of thousands, 4 church campuses across the city, over 10 million a month in tithes. The responsibility is different, so is the pay.

And if you have a problem with how God provides for His chosen preachers/pastors/priests then perhaps you should talk to God about that. He's the one that set up the rules for us, and they work great for everyone.

well the church pays for their housing or rent a house else where for the pastor and his family .the pastor is not in charge of the money(offerings ) that come into the church the treasurer is and also if the pastor has a family what do you wan tthe m to live in a shack,a shanty, something way to small to suit his family.but also sometimes the wife of the pastor also has a job and they choose to live away from the church and she may help towards the purchase rent of the house .i dont give a care where the pastor lives and or the size of his house .maybe you should put more energy into the bible and less interest into the personal lives and housing of the pastor.(oh and a personal note i went to a church when i was little and the pastors wife stole from the church and their house wasnt very big or fancy i dont know what she took the money for and do not care i quit that church and has not soured my thought and beliefs in the church just makes me more understanding that we all are sinners even the pastors and their families)

Well, actually, a lot of time, it depends on how well a church is doing....our church has been around since the 50s, and the parsonage, where the pastor lives, has always been a modest little house, next to the church. Only thing that ever changed, was a garden was put in, when the wife wanted to grow vegtables.
Now, some of the bigger churches, liberal issues, and the mega churches, probably have some issues....don't ask me why anyone would want a swimming pool, conjurs up images of the Bakker scandals in the 80s....but a lot of it also tells of how you like your church...simple, God oriented.....or, world oriented. Find one you like, are comfortable...and celebrate your God.

Uh, not really...

Most pastors live pretty modest lives. The ones you're seeing are only the really wealthy, influential pastors. The bulk do NOT live better than anyone else, if that...

My pastor lives comfortably but under the "median" in my area, and my associate pastor makes less by American standards. They would have done better sticking with their technology degrees, if they wanted money. And my friend who was a missionary lives barely above poverty level in NJ -- he never financially caught up, even after leaving missionary work.

Where in the bible does it say you have to be poor to be a Christian?
And your use of the word "always" is incorrect. There are many poor pastors who have chosen to live in poverty. What do you think all those missionaries are doing in third world countries? Stop judging things you know nothing about and then look in the mirror before you point a finger at someone.
How much of your income is donated to charity? I doubt you would give 10% of your income to charity like most Christians do.

Actually, when I was a pastor, I lived in a small, sh*tty house. And I was happy with it. A lot of pastors I know qualify for food stamps.

Back in the day, the pastor had a huge house because nuns and such used to live there too.

Roman Catholic priests don't live on much.. a few thousand a month as donation and live in a non-owned house.

However, some of the Evangelicals and especially the new-agey Christian churches that preach abundance and "god", have got a stack of properties, stocks and investments.

Yes, it's no co-incidence they pass around yellow buckets during singing and 'getting high' sessions..

my cousin used to be a pastor and his house was owned by the church. when he got a divorce (because she was crazy) he had to move out of the house and the church.
his brother is also a pastor and i'm pretty sure he already owned his home before joining the church. maybe that's where the pool came from?!?!
