Will the picture quality be better or worse than a component connection? And please dont tell me to go buy an overpriced Monster cable. The amount of electromagnetic radiation a cable only 3 feet long is exposed to is minimal if run properly.

Honeslty, everyone will tell you to go digital with the DVI over the analog, but I will tell you something to think about.

DVI should be the best because everything is in the digital domain (assuming you have a digital TV). But, a digital connection can also bring out many artifacts (video anomolies) that would not normall be seen. My experience with many TV's has shown that 99% of people will never notice a difference between the two types of connections. Component looks great and so does DVI/HDMI. The DVI should give you the most true picture possible, but I would bet that you wouldn't notice the difference since most manufacturers do a great job and analog to digital conversion when using analog video.

I say, give the 3' DVI cable a try. I am assuming that the DVI is DVI-D (digital not analog). If you are happy with the picture then your good to go.

Comcast cable HD transmits either 1080i or 720p both are just as good on component (red, green, blue) video as they would be on HDMI, so save the money and just use component video and the red and white audio. You can use a HDMI to DVI but a lot of HDTVs if you use the HDMI it automatically uses the HDMI sound and will not let you change it to the analog audio (red, white), so you may spend a lot of money and be disappointed. Also you will not see any difference between HDMI and component on a cable box, I've hooked up a few and even on my personal one I saved the HDMI for my Blue-Ray and use component for the cable box.

If your cable is DVI, the answer is NO! You need
a DVI-D cable to connect or a HDMI cable depending on your TV connection. The picture will be better with DVI-D or HDMI.

Get a DVI to HDMI converter.

The picture quality of DVI and HDMI are the same. Only difference its that with HDMI you have your video and sound all in one cable.

Stay away from component since it's analog.
