Actually, there are two of us. My boyfriend is looking into this as well. If possible, we'd like to find a country that has slightly more gay-friendly ideas abiout marriage and such, but mostly we just want out of America. It's time to get off a sinking ship, you know?

A friend who is a professor at a Canadian university tells me their colleges and universities are being inundated with applications from American scholars who have had enough of the anti intellectualism in America--experts, skilled, very well trained, very valuable minds, the country's greatest asset--fleeing, because Big Government wants citizens to be nothing but mindless robots, unquestioning and obedient, much like the "Soviet Man" Stalin sought to create. And so the sun sets on the American Empire. Kind of sad, but thats what the Supreme Court voted for.

Gay people have special reason for concern. Just look at the hatred dripping from some of the "christians'" responses. They want to amend the Constitution to discriminate against gays, this is the kind of thing that went on in Nazi Germany as the holocaust was beginning. At the very least, all gay people should have valid passports and a chunk of cash with which to flee the Land Of The Free just in case the "christians" start an anti gay pogrom.

Both Australia and New Zealand are great. I have lived in Australia and I have been to New Zealand and the people in both places are more accepting than in America. One thing I found about Australia is that they were a little bit racist but you wouldnt really notice it. I felt more free in Australia than I did in America. The one problem about being down under is that it is far away from family and friends. It is also a bit expensive in the cities but its expensive in the cities in America too and once you get out into the country its fine.

Its also fairly easy to gain citizenship in both countries as long as you are young and can support youself.

Where you want to go is Canada, a very liberal gay friendly country with great employment opportunity, safe and clean. Oh yea and do not forget free health care.

What you need to do is apply for citizenship of Canada first and once approved you will lose your citizenship to the US.

Good Luck

Why do you think you can do that so easily? There are few countries that will want you. Not because you are gay, but most countries are trying to control their population as well. You are just like the families that cross the US-Mexico border everyday for a different life. They have essentially denounced their Mexican citizenship and want to move to the US. What makes you any different?

You don't need to renounce in order to leave. In fact, we will often refuse to accept a renunciation when the American has nowhere to live, or seems to want to return to the US (many seem to believe that a renunciation is a political statement rather than a cold fact). However, I presume that you've thought that through, so here is some information you might find helpful:

Please don't hesitate..... let the state department know that you would like to renounce your US Citizenship. Choose the country that will except you. GO and GO fast. And when you get aids, don't come back to the USA for the best medical treatment anyone can ask for. No matter where you go, your ship will always be sinking.

call one of the many actors who said they would leave the US if Bush was re-elected. That would have been Alec Baldwin and a few others.

Johnny Depp on the other hand moved back from France to the US, during those pesky Muslim riots.

Well! At least both you and your love realize that those that flee a sinking ship first without attempting to right it are in fact the Rats! Your concept! Not mine!

I´m not clear of the reason you want to go. If it is that you´re looking for a more gay-oriented society, try to go to SF, CA or something...If you want to marry your boyfriend, try UK...or if you´re just bored or something and looking for fun go to Amsterdam, netherlands...fun granted....

Several countries have sites about gaining citizenship but I would suggest going to the Netherlands.

Good bye, good riddens and don't let the door knob hit ya, where the good Lord split ya, lol!
