Has she had a full STD screening? For Herpes, HPV, Gonnorhea, etc? She should have a urine sample and blood sample taken to be checked for everything, including HIV 2 if she's been to west africa or has had a partner that's traveled to or been with someone from west africa. It doesn't have to be HIV, she should get tested again in another 3 months just to be sure. And oddly enough if she exchanged body fluids during sex, she could have caught a person's cold. I hope everything works out for her.

Tonsillitis. Which can be caused by a virus or bacteria.
if the her symtoms are mild it is connected to a viral infection like a cold if it is from coxsackie virus she will have small blisters on her tonsils and maybe the roof of her mouth. The blisters erupt after a few days and are very painful.
If it is a streptococcal infection her glands will be swollen and her throat coated and will run a high temp. along with sour breath and feeling sick.

it might just be an acute coryza or what we called the common colds... sometimes it could cause soar throat... and even fever... try to let her drink fruit juices... and water... its a great affordable therapy... but if SYMPTOMS PERSIST... CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR...:-)
