well in the middle of a highway would be a little noisey but in fact it depends on your tent and situation and what you are seeking for. you cant even erect a normal tent in a highspeed wind so you have to find a place that your tent (and you inside it!) would be safe.( like do not camp : 1-close to rivers or water streams specialy in narrow valleys,2-steep slopes coz then you wont have a nice rest and may get into trouble,3-on rocky ground cos you got a spine !, 4- on the possible water stream path cos it would be nasty to replace your stuff and tent under the rain"it`s not romantic nor memorable:D", 5- on the top the ball hills "hills with no trees or high bushes" cos you would be in a huge risk of geting a direct or indirect lightning impact "there has not to be rain fall for that , lightning may happen and happens in windy and cloudy weather", 6- not anywhere in late autumn or winter cos since your r asking this question in here then you dont have the necessary "death and life importance" experience for such situations..................and as a major advice:choose a 1st SAFE and 2nd nice place NOT a 1st nice and 2nd SAFE one.....
and dont forget to enjoy it:D .............have fun

Anywhere where you can get the pegs in. Other than that who cares, free world. When I was travelling round the world I pitched it anywhere and everywhere, even at a croatian monestry which was scary. Though I wouldnt pitch it anywhere in Romania unless you want wild dogs to eat you. Ideally you should pitch it on long grass as its comfy.

And not under any trees with big branches that will snap and fall on the tent. You don't want your tent to get broken now do you?

The roof of a tower block and the central reservation of a motorway are appropriate ;-)

The best place in is a dry, flat spot. Also shade is good if it is hot out.
