I am sorry to say that there is no method of curing aids. I am even sorrier to have to admit that the method that could have been used to prevent the spread of aids was not used.

In past generations, we knew that the way to stop the spread of deadly diseases was to contain them by identifying and isolating all the carriers, so that they could not spread it. The US Centers for Disease Control knew this, but gave in to pressure from 'political correctness' which did not want to categorize homosexuality as wrong.

If we had started mandatory and universal testing for the aids virus, we could have found nearly everybody who carried it, and prevented them from spreading it. Condoms and other methods would not be needed if isolation was used.

People who had political pull and were very vocal about it complained that this was unfair and effectively shamed the government and the CDC into not following through on a program that we knew could work because it had been used to contain dangerous diseases in the past.

Therfore, because of a relatively few (but loud) people who did not want to give up their pleasures, everybody else was too embarrassed to insist on universal testing and isolation for the carriers. The sad thing is that it is spreading to everybody, when it could have been contained. Even repeated outbreaks could have been contained, provided that we kept up the universal testing and forced the carriers that were found to stay in isolation.

But some well-intentioned people claimed that it was unfair to do that to people who had not committed any crime. They forgot that life is not fair, and they expected the government to provide fairness to them in problems which the government did not cause and for which the government was not responsible.

I am sorry. Sometimes we suffer for our own sins; and sometimes, in this life, other people suffer for them as well.

I sympathize with your desire to have a child but this is a Bad, bad BAD idea! Legally: Not only can your friend get fired if caught, in most places this is a felony. And you are an accessory. Unless you want to have a baby in jail, forget it. Biologically: There is a reason in vitro fertilization is a low yield proposition: The conditions do not favor impregnation. That is why it usually takes a number of attempts. Let's face it - the "usual" way of fertilization usually takes a several attempts (on average). Ethically: People who donate sperm do so under very strict conditions and under the assurance that their genetic material will be used appropriately. They have a right to have that expectation fulfilled. And what would you tell your child? That they were the product of a crime? Please reconsider.

There are all kinds of conspiracy theories, always has been. I know people who believe that a man invented an engine that achieved 80mpg, sold the patent to the oil companies and they keep it locked away. Another that claims invention of a tablet that converts water to gasoline. Poor, desperate people look cynically on the wealthy as the cause of all their problems. Unfortunately, the poor are also uneducated, and these fallicies, once expressed, spread quickly.
