I think that an invisible fence is great. I'm trying to get one hear. Many, many neighbors have them in this area and they work great.
I think they serve multiple purposes.
1)Protect your dog(from cars, running off if they are prone to that etc.)
2)They protect people and pets passing by(most dogs tdo become territorial of their yard).
3)Keeps them from running in to others property(not every person is a dog lover. Some pretty mean things can be done in this case. I know people that have to pick up their dogs from the pound on several occassion due to this, it costs money each time, then it also usually leads to a court case due to the complaints, worse case scenario, i have even heard of wandering dogs being shot or fed dog food with antifreeze).
So, I think it's safest to keep as close an eye on your pet as possible, she is your responsibility.

I have installed an invisible fence at each of my last two homes in the Atlanta area. Both have been effective in keeping our dogs from wandering off or bothering others in our neighborhood as they walk by the house. They are effective with 90% or more of all dogs. I believe the manufacturers claim a higher number, and that is probably correct, they should have more data to back up the number. I have only had one dog that would knowingly run through the invisible fence and then it was hard to get her to come home because she believed she would be shocked even thou I had turned off the fence to let her back in. I have never had an aggressive dog, but I have seen invisible fences keep very aggressive dogs in check.

An invisible fence can backfire on you. If your dog is running and "hits" it but still makes it past the fence, he is now trapped outside your yard, and won't cross the zapper to get back in. This happened to my aunt, and when she finally found the dog, she was 15 miles away, alive but traumatized. Get a physical fence. It protects your dog from outsiders coming into the yard as well. The only way I would use an invisible fence would be as a supplement to a physical fence.

Yes. You should try it.... It will keep your dog in the yard or property while outside. You can train her to it. It is not ugly and they won't worry at the fence..Neighbors won't complain about the ugly fence. With extra collars you can keep any number of dogs within the area..
The other answers covered the pros-and cons- of the invis fence..

I myself would get a fence. But not sold on the invisible ones , because other dogs can still get to your dog. And might get hit by a car doing so.
I love boxers. They on top on my list!!
Please keep your pets out of this heat. Give them a break & let them cool off inside . Or they love to be cooled down with a hose.

Invisible fence will only keep *your* dog in, but it won't stop other dogs/ people coming into your yard and do her potential harm. Your better off with a conventional fence, preferably privacy fence (wooden slat-type). They're harder to climb.

get a fence.......the electric shock fence will keep her inside your property boundaries but it will not protect your dog from outsiders. such as children coming in and teasing you dog which leads to dog bite incidents and it will not protect your dog from other more aggressive dogs. a chain link or wooden fence works pretty well.

It is always in a dog's interest to give them a boundary in which to stay in. it is safer for them as you can control that environment and prevent them from running around in places you cannot control.
