If you have an older computer that requires you to use matching sticks, then you should use 2X512MB sticks.

I use a 1024 stick for my laptop because in the future, I would like the flexibility of wanting to add one more stick to make it 2 gigs if I ever want to upgrade. If I have 2X512MB sticks, then there is not much room for upgrade in the future.

It is really your choice. There is no difference in performance whether you use two sticks or one. It just depends on how much room for future upgrade you want later. People who say one has better performance than the other doesnt make sense. The computer uses the first RAM, then when it needs to use more memory, then it will go to the next RAM for backup. There is absolutely NO difference in performance.

Edit: The only difference in performance is the RAM latency. If you get a CL3 then it will be slower than a CL2. There is also a CL2.5 which is not as fast as CL2 but its the most sold. If you want to talk about performance issues, then talk about the latency, not the number of RAMS you install.

It's probably cheaper to buy the 1024Mb (1GB) stick than the two 512Mb sticks for a start. You will only have the need to carry one stick around with you too!

I thought you were talking pen drives!

You have the same memory, but after some time if you had 2 x 512mb you can't buy more because you don't have more slots and if you bye 1024mb you will have slot to buy another sometimes!

Its up to you really, There is a up side and down side to them both. Buy two and you have to carry 2 about with you but you can store pictures on one and documents on the other to keep them apart. However thing that if something goes wrong 1024Mb of data is a lot to lose.

i prefer getting a 1024 MB stick.. at present coming to price.. not a much difference seen... but after some time memory detoriates use after use... so at that time if u buy a 1024MB one the memory will detoriate less.. if u buy two 512 pieces considering the same time the detoriation combined for two 512 pieces will b more than the 1024 piece.. so i prefer getting a 1024 piece... u will see the detoriation after a long time...

well it depends. if you require an item of over 512mb to be saved then you need the 1024.

Id rather have just 1 thing to worry about than 2 so if works out cheaper, get the 1024

2x512 runs faster than 1x1024 - twice as fast because the computer has double the physical access to the stick. If you intend on getting upgrades in the future, like going to 2-4gig of ram you might want to get a 1024 stick.

well it is allways beeter to spilt the modules if u run 1024 in 1 slot it would be fine,,,,,,,but it would be better to have two 512,s it will run smoooooother ,not unless u are planing on going on to 1024 later in each slot then go for the 1024,hope this helps
remember ram is good but allway check your prossecor speed ,coz there is only so much ram will help it

listen to boris most computer works better when paired as access times are increased and that is also the optimum set up if you end up upgrading to 2 gb then go for the 1024 mb memory...
