The toaster is for more than toasting bread. You can reheat waffles or pancakes, do pop tarts and many other items. I also like burned bread (black toast) One of my favorite times was toasting bread over an open fire where I almost always blackened it- try it, you may like it.

it all depends on whether the bread is super fresh, or a few days old, or even frozen.. some people prefer to cook from frozen on a normal setting instead of use the frozen setting on the dial. It also allows for other things to be cooked, like pop tarts etc.

You people have no idea... It is because different breads toast at different rates. Homemade bread takes longer than shop bought white bread as it has more moisture.
