While there is probably some of that going on as well, I think a lot of the "bashing" we see is just people being terribly uneducated about their own religions, let alone world history or the beliefs of others.
We are in an age of subjective right and wrong, where people are taught to go by what they *feel* is moral or right, and not by the boundaries set up by the doctrines of their religion. This allows people to feel free to be ignorant of any facts about the teachings of a certain religion while forming their opinion.
Do "Muslim" terrorists follow the teachings of the Quran when they carry out heinous acts? Or are they acting on their emotions of hatred, and calling it good in the name of Allah?
Do "Christian" terrorists who spout bile and hatred toward gays follow the teachings of Jesus, who said that "he who is without sin should cast the first stone"? Or are they acting on their own bigotry and calling it good in the name of Jesus?
Many people who call themselves Christians, Jews, Muslims, or other are really nothing of the sort, as you will discern from their acts. Their "religion" is a convenient wrapper of righteousness with which they package their sinful crimes against their fellow man.
The big problem is, most of them actually think that they are doing good in the world as they spread their hatred, and as they completely ignore the doctrines of the "religion" they claim to represent.
So, no, I don't think most are "posers", but I also don't think these hate-mongers are good representatives of the religions they claim as their own. If they don't even learn the doctrines and teachings, spouting the *name* of their religion is meaningless. It'd be like calling myself a doctor even though I've never set foot in a medical school.
EDIT: And just to add, since my point is being proven as we speak... for the record, it does *not* in fact "take one to know one". Am I a baseball player? No. Can I tell a good baseball player from a bad one? Definitely.
In fact I'd say the opposite is true; being ignorant blinds you to other people's ignorance. Or as Christ said, don't try to take the speck out of someone else's eye if you have a plank in your own.

I'm sure there are people who do that, although I'm not really sure why.
As for me, I am a Christian. I was a Christian yesterday, and I will be a Christian tomorrow.
One day, you will hear that this old lady has died. Don't you believe it! I will be absent from this body, but I won't not dead! I will be present with the Lord!! And guess what? I will STILL be a Christian!!

You can be fairly certain we have quite a few "posers" here ... as well as many who are "trolls" or just trying to incite a lot of negativity. It's like that everywhere on the internet ... why should Yahoo! Answers be any different :P

I don't know. I know that I'm a christian and I think what I think. Why do I get the feeling that you're a poser?

Everybody DOES NOT have an angle going. Many of us are sincere.
Why do you think that people get so hot about a subject that they become incoherent and forget to use the spellcheck.

What proof do you have that these people are posing? Perhaps the only poser here is YOU.

There are a LOT but I don't think most are. I think its kind of funny though when it is so obvious but people still get fooled and reply with nasty angry comments.
