i downloaded a videoo file with .avi format...
when i open it using windows media player..it tells me that the codec used 2 compress or decompress the file is not supported...so i opened www.codecsdownload.com...but i dont know which codec should i download...there r tons of files...
any1 knows the right file plz tell me

Download and install K-Lite Codec pack you will get all the codec u will ever need.

Use VirtualDub to determine the codec that the movie needs..

You could use a small utility such as avi info:
http://www.billh.demon.co.uk/video/aviInfo.html
to find out which codec it uses.
I suggest you try a generic MP4 decoder first - DiVX (www.divx.com) is straight forward.

there are other elegant solutions but u could do what i do, try vlc player.
its free and plays almost all formats, best of luck
