They are both superior formats and with digital transmission, you will most likely get a cleaner sound. Optical cable would be better for longer lengths, however, the optical cables will be less tolerant of bends, kink etc. so if your space is severely tight behind your equipment, try the coax cable.

Neither has any sort of advantage over the other one, both do the exact same thing.
Optical uses glass fibers for it's wire connections and should not be used for tight or long runs , because it is prone to break.
Coaxial is fine for just about any type of digital connection.
So now it comes of what kind of connections would be accepted on your a/v receiver.

Both transmit the audio data as digital format and hence there is no loss of quality. Hence both are same - coaxial cable may be cheaper.

They are both the same quality and do the same thing.
If you are running the cable a long distance, then optical will be the best choice because it does not lose its signal.

Go out to your local BB or whatever sort of electronics store or even the internet. Look for the best buy you can get on any of the the two. The are both comparable for sound and whatever you choose will sound great.

It doesn't matter. If you have really long cable runs, coax is better and a lot cheaper.
