Use your knowledge as a basis for confidence. The better prepared you are, the easier it will be to speak.

Practice speaking to someone you are comfortable with - a friend or family member. If you're actually making a speech, have them listen to your practice session. If you're having problems with conversation or casual debate, have them ask you questions, and you answer them. Practice will make it easier to speak with those you don't know as well. Once you take that leap into speaking with those you don't know as well, you'll find that the more you do it, the less you'll experience stage fright.

Learn ways to curb symptoms of stage fright. Deep breathing, sips of water, carry tissue or a hanky if your hands sweat - these can all help. Remember that symptoms of stage fright are internal - obvious to you, but not to others. Most people can't tell when someone else's knees are shaking! If your message is good, the listener will focus on the message more than the speaker.

You may never "remove" hesitation to speak, but you can learn to control your emotional response - stage fright.

Good luck!
