Are all new car stereos the same size? I bought an adapter face plate to install my sons CD player in his 99 intrepid. To my disappointment, the adapter plate opening is to small to fit the face of the stereo in it. Are the majority of car stereos universal in size?

No...they are not all the same size..even the holes they mount in are different sizes. All you need to do is look in a Crutchfield cataloge to tell you that. Ever car and truck has a specific size radio that fits best in that car. For instance...a 90's model chevy truck has a tall, skinny radio comparrred to that of a 90's jeep cherokee which has short, wide radio. You can actually order a radio that is made just for your make and model car or truck.

99% of all aftermarket stereos are the same size, or 'din' size. There are some models available that are vehicle specific. Pioneer, Kenwood, and some others have radios that are 'din and a half' to replace GM radios without installation kits. Other manufacturers have models that are 'double din' to replace the radios in certain import vehicles.

As for your Intrepid, the face of the radio is not meant to fit into the installation kit. The only thing that should be mounted into the installation kit is the cage of the aftermarket radio.

No...all car stereos are not the same size...whoever says they are is ignorant to the fact. At this point, I would suggest going to a best buy or circuit city near you. Dont go to a tweeter(way to pricey). You have already gotten a wrong part, now it's time to go face to face, chat with someone and have them help you fix your issue. Im not sure why you got a face plate, it sounds like you might need what they call an, "intallation kit"...each one fits specific vehicle. But whatever the case...Im sure it's a fairly easy fix! See ya
