Hanging Belly Buster
Here is a challenging exercise that works your abdominal (stomach) muscles. Stand with your back to the wall of the pool. Spread your arms wide and hold onto the edge. Alternate slowly lifting your right and left leg up and down, contracting your stomach muscles with each lift. Now challenge yourself by lifting both legs up at the same time. Exhale as you lift. Can you feel those muscles working? See how many you can do!

Swim laps — Swimming uses every major muscle group and increases heart and lung fitness.

Kick laps — With a kickboard or other flotation device, use only your legs to move from one end of the pool to the other. Keep the legs straight and abdominal muscles tight. Avoid splashing by keeping the legs underwater for maximum resistance. Kicking will strengthen and tone your legs, hips, buttocks, and abdominal muscles.

Jog in the water — Stand in water that is shoulder-deep. Jog in place, pumping your arms and lifting your legs to increase your heart rate and burn fat.

Deep-water running — Use a foam water noodle or two empty plastic jugs to float your body in deep water. Circle your legs in a running motion.

Water jacks — Perform a jumping jack motion while standing in shoulder-deep water. Begin with feet together and arms down at sides. Jump, opening your legs slightly wider than shoulders, and lift arms to shoulder height but still under the water. Jump again and bring legs together and arms down to sides. Perform the exercise slowly using the resistance of the water to tone arms, shoulders, inner thighs, and outer thighs.

Water push-ups — Stand in chest-deep water facing the side of the pool. Place your hands, shoulder width apart, on the edge of the pool. Keep your feet on the bottom of the pool. Bend your elbows and lean your chest toward the pool wall. Use the muscles of your chest, back, and arms to push back to the starting position.
