It is not always a 'self inflicted' illness is it, you know that and I know that, we could cut down lack of bed space for lots of reasons using your idea.
Smokers, miners, (why work down the pit, you know its bad for your health), these sad people that cut themselves to gain attention, boxing , hang gliding etc etc.
Whether the cause of requiring hospital treatment is 'self inflicted' or not, health care should be provided (free) for all, rich or poor!
There is actually no such thing as 'free' we have all in the UK paid or are still paying for this service , would you prefer a system like the USA where you can get whatever treatment you like, whether your need is due to 'self infliction' or any other cause? As long as you can pay! We have almost reached that stage now in the UK!
I have reached a ripe old age, I am officially an 'Old Far*' I have paid my government National insurance all my life, I have never taken up any hospital bed space , and I have never regretted my payments to the government being used to pay for those less fortunate than I have been!
I hope never to see a system in the UK which gives top priority to the rich and leaves the needy without, or just the basics!
So in a nut shell 'stuff you' and your ideals (and your 10 points)!
Hope this helps??

So which rock did you crawl from under then, suggest you get back under it, its were low life like you belong, god your such a self opinionated arrogant pig, I so hope that no person in your life at this moment or in the future becomes obese either by "self infliction" as you call it or by any other means because I sure would love to see you say to them that they should just exercise or eat less, have you ever seen anyone suffering so badly with cancer their bodies swell up, have you ever seen someone so low and lonely they eat for comfort, well just thank your damn lucky stars either of those things have never marred you life in any way, your a low life and I so hope one day you don't have to eat your word over this comment.

Well everone who pays taxes should have the right no matter how big they are.
But i see your point, obese people do cost the NHS a lot of money.
Actually i have to dissagree slightly.
I'm anorexic and recieve all kinds of treatment on the NHS so does that mean skinny people should be refused treatment too?

And I suppose you're the shape of a stick!
Everyone who works pays national insurance contributions that pay for the NHS. If the NHS are going to stop people, on non-medical grounds, from having treatment, then those people should get a refund.

I suffer from depression and using eating to compensate. I find it very hard not to overeat. It's not my fault I'm fat - should I be denied treatment?
Anyway, everyone dies sooner or later and is usually a drain on the NHS beforehand. Being overweight (or smoking etc) only accelerates this process and makes you die younger - therefore costing the country less in the long run! ;-)

Eating yourself into that state is usually because of underlying emotional issues which in itself could be a form of illness. Do we in future say that people who get cancer because they smoke, drink or eat shitey diets shouldn't get treatment. What about people who do become addicted to drugs or alcohol should be denied treatment unless they can afford to pay for it? I guess my answer to your question is yes, everyone in the UK pays National Insurance, or has it paid for them if they can't work for any reason, so everyone has the right to have treatment for any illness regardless of what we perceive to be the cause of it.

When you apply the same principle to all the sports injuries, the people who injure themselves fighting on Saturday night, the attempted suicides etc and you return the tax they pay then yes.
