There are separate issues to answer here and they are not as connected as you may assume:

1) Did one or both of them lie to you?

2) Should you "allow" them to date?

Address the issues separately. Talk to each of them one on one, separate from the other, to determine who is telling the truth. If they are lying to you, address that issue by itself.

If you don't want your daughter to date him because he lied to you, then tell her so. But if only your daughter lied, don't take that out on the boyfriend.

Take your daughter to a counselor if she is lying to you. You need to address that issue seriously with your child.

Parents don't trust any relationships between 17 year olds. We're too busy being concerned about you getting pregnant or doing something to hurt your future. Despite what you feel, we're certain your relationship won't last and you'll grow up.

But from your perspective....always go with the truth, it makes trust a lot easier. Tell everyone the truth and work with parents to find out what their concerns are and how you can keep dating your boyfriend with their approval.

And if they are not reasonable, at least you took an honest approach. After all, you do want to promote honesty with your boyfriend, right?

Would you let her date? I think that 17 is definitely old enough to date but you my think differently. If you don't want your daughter to date yet then tell her no, the guy is just an innocent victim but it's not your fault, it's hers for lying in the first place.
