Odd, my son did this and i didnt try to stop him, he continued on and by the time he was 2, i knew i had to stop it, my pediatricain said that he would have crooked teeth and it terrified me. By 5 he was still sucking his first 2 fingers on his left hand and had made a bad indention on his first finger and his nail looked odd too, so i asked them again what to do and they told me to put stuff like hot pepper on it and things like that. finally, that caused him to cease doing it during the day but would "burn it up" at night sucking his fingers. I would literally cry over this, because people would make fun of him out in stores when he did do it. Unfortunatley, it took me and my husband literally scarring the crap out of him by telling him that he was gonna lose his finger if he kept sucking on it. we had to show him that his indention on his finger and his nail meant that it was gonna rot off. I know that this wasnt the best method, go ahead others and talk about cruelty, but unless you have this problem you wouldnt understand.
Im not saying that you should try this method, but it was what worked for me. also, you could ask your childs dr. what they would suggest and hopefully you have a better kids dr. than i did. and good luck!

At 15 months everything goes into the mouth, including the fingers. My son sucked his thumb until he was 13 years old and only when he understood what it was like to be without pocket money did he stop(Every time I saw him with hes thumb in I cut his pocket money in half for a week)
I think it worked along with the fact he was getting bullied at high school because of it. He is now 29

my mom told me that my aunt used to suck on her finger a lot when she was little and my grandmother told her that she'll lose her finger if she kept doing that LOL so that obviously freaked her out but she was a lot older than fifteen months. I think the best way is probably to to ween her into another comfort item like a stuffed animal, a blanket, or even a bottle. those items are safer than sucking on your own finger. When she sucks on her finger, take it out gently and hand her the blanket or stuffed animal instead and stay sitting next to her for a while, making sure that she doesn't just stick her finger back into our mouth. Try to give her a cute stuffed animal and making some story about it to make it really special so she'll like holding it and touching it. She'll eventually forget about her finger.

For me, this habit is just normal. But if it really disturbs you try having an alternative. A pacifier perhaps. Eventually when she grows up this habit may or may not be out of her system. Try training her gradually to stop sucking her thumb.

This is so normal. Almost all of my family sucked their thumbs when they were babies. She may grow out of it but it could be a long time. I mean but dont worry because thumb-sucking is OK and i think its cute and it doesnt affect everybodys teeth as long as their nice and strong. I suck my thumb still and im 14 and everybody tells me I have perfect teeth. Dont force her to stop lety her do it on her own.

Put something that tastes nasty on her fingers, like vineger. Just watch her so she does not rub it in her little eyes!!
Yes, it will affect her mouth, and the older the child gets the worse it looks. Also, the drool in itself coming out of the child as she does that is gross enough.

You can apply crushed neem juice or bittergourd juice to her thumd without her knowledge for a few days. She might not like the bitter tasyte and gradually give up one day. All the Best!!

It would be healthier to give her a pacifier. Of course she will get over it. remember that those teeth will fall and other will grow

Talk to her pediatrician-they have many good ideas for you to try, and can also tell you if it is affecting her dental development.
