According to hindu naming convention, Monisha means intellectual.
It is only according to Afro-american convention, that it means solitary life.
So go ahead and don't worry......as a baby is born hindu. Then he is converted into the specific religions via rituals.
I am sorry to say, I don't agree with few of the answerers for this question.
A name has great implications in ones life, specially the first letter. Don't ask me how, as it takes days to teach this funda, because you need to know lots of things first.
It is similar to Reimann geometry which is necessary to build Time Machine. Also that don't take you for granted that you will be able to build the Time Machine.

I know someone named Monisha...I think the spelling might be a little bit different. She does not live a solitary existence...but she is very contemplative...and reflects on many things. It is why we are friends. Perhaps it means "Solitary of Soul" ...someone who stands away from the crowd. It's a very pretty name. We all call her Na-Na...so we hardly ever use her given name, anyway.

No it doesn't sound thrilling. Call her solitaire, it sounds much better. Seclude and lona still sound better than monisha. Don't complicate the girl when she grows up. Find another name. Also, the name usually doesn't reflect the action of the person. Some could be very active socially and his name reflects solitude.

Well it is kind of a nice name just never tell your daughter that is what it means. Names have no real power except for some in ancient languages but your kid might just end up not liking her name because of what it means

I like it! It's pretty. Hmmm... I don't know about meanings - seems like they won't matter too much, really. I mean, it's not like naming a girl Solitude or something - it should only really come up when she's 10 and she and her friends are all into looking up name meanings.

I like the name. Don't worry, what the name means doesn't affect the person that has it. My name means christ follower and I'm not a christian.

I think it is a pretty sounding name. I do not really think a persons name chooses their personality for them. Mine is April, lets just say Im not all sunshine and flowers.
