I often wonder why almost all Christians think 'the bible' means just the New testament, the New testament is a Jesus fan club edition, it bears hardly any resemblance to the bible.
Good I'm glad I got that out of the way!
Your question gives the impression that you are taking the pi**, but its well put as it can be taken any way these religious nuts want to take it! Your replies will be much more interesting! You won't get much in the way of humour, but interesting , you already had one saying the bible is an historical record! That would be amusing if it had been meant to be amusing! Imagine kids at school using the bible as an historical record to pass their history exams, not many passes.
But I tend to get carried away and digress a lot!
Back to your question and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and treat it as 'serious'!
All religious folk think the bible is 'true' Christians believe the new testament is true because this is their real Holy book , Jesus was and is God, Jesus was God and his own Son, Jesus was and is 'The Holy Trinity' their 'proof' is the new testament! No other religion (Daft as they all are) believes this! Jesus (God) 'corrected' many of the beliefs of the Old testament! The Old Testament had been 'corrected or edited' many times before, as you rightly say.
So why do they all believe in this cra*p, they have nothing else to guide them, except the usual "just look around you at the flowers etc!
As my Irish Grandad used to say "God bless you my child, may your given hand never fail"
I still havent a clue what he was talking about , but I assume it meant "Good luck"??

Gospel means "Good news". There are only 4 Gospels in the bible- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, each telling the story and "Good news" of Jesus.

Each of the translations made (NIV, The Message, New Amplified) is made by going to the original greek texts that we have and translating them from scratch. If you want the most of what the Greek has to say, the best understanding, try New Amplified. If a word in English just doesn't do the Greek word justice, they will put in 2 or 3 words that are similar to let you get the picture better.

in my humble opinion the bible is a collection of books that were written thousands of years ago by rabbis and followers of the man known as jesus. It was ratified into an official collection of manuscripts at the Nicean Council in 300 AD to bring an unruly populace under control. ( The Roman emperor recognised that one religion that the majority of people espoused would be good for society as a whole and make it much easier to control. Im sure this is what was meant about religion being the great narcotic), and has been subject to various translations over the interim period that will change the nuances due to the diffference in language, symbolism and meaning. Families that teach their children that it is the literal word of god are no doubt well meaning, but i personally believe they are somewhat misguided. As in the three great religions of the "Book", Judaism, Islam and Christianity, if one reads it for understanding of the human condition and the inherent wisdom that may well be divine in origin, and follow its precepts, as most people do, they will have relatively peaceful and fulfilling lives. On the other hand if one takes it literally then i think one is missing the point as ultimately the books were written by a nomadic and ancient people who by their very circumstances in time would have led a completely different way of life and the rules within it are designed to cope with this "primitive" way of life. And no-one even think about suggesting that i am saying that religions are primitive - it is meant purely in a chronological sense.

Do some research.....the bible was written in Hebrew and Greek and no one touches those. The first English one was KJV and there are people who use the 1611 version still.....There are many English versions, all sorts of reading levels, only a small handful are conservative versions that most people use. They basically are very close and point to Jesus as the Savior. I dont know what you are talking about missing.....there are 66 books in the bible except the Catholic bible has some extra ones that most consider good history and have always been separate. Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 (KJV) - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16 (NASB) - "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIV) - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Research the "Dead Sea Scrolls" which they compared to a version 1000 yrs later to find that the book of Isaiah had only one 3 letter word was difference.

The old English translation of the term "gospel" is 'good tidings'.
Gospel was used to refer to "infallible truth" or something "implicitly believed" , without reference to it's originality. The books that are missing were omitted because they were not "inspired" by the writers who lived during or close to the time they were writing about. The books that were written by first-hand observers and/or people who had direct conversations and ideological exchanges with people who did have direct contact with disciples and prophets living during biblical times are the books that were written in the bible. Whenever texts are translated from one language to another, some of the original language is lost by reason of language variations but the themes, contexts. sequences of events and characters do not change.

These books are written by humans, not God as it is often claimed.
The only scripture I know, which is unadultrated is the Hindu book Bhagwat Gita (The Song Of God). Try and read it. It's available on the Internet. Non of the violence and hate found in other scriptures.
The Bible is said to be based on this. Search the Internet and you will see. It is true the present Bible is not the original. Experts on the Bible, please tell me where was Lord Jesus in his youth. Why has the mention of 'reincarnation' been deleted from the present version of the Bible? Those who are bothered will look up the websites mentioned below.

These are translations not revisons... The King James version has the majority support of all manuscripts that have every been found, it therefore is the most reliable translation, but it is still only a translation... You need to be an expert in Biblical languages in order to have the original text that was given to the writers...

Wow, there's so much hostility towards Christians on here! Just because there's a president who mixes religion and politics, you all think Christians are crazed lunatics who want to murder everyone and go to church that sunday. This just isn't the case.

Despite the Bible going through many translations and versions, surely if people want to believe it's true then that's an individual's choice. Your desire to ridicule a personal belief which gives millions of people comfort and help in times of need doesn't help anyone. I'd rather believe in something than believe in nothing.

If you really want to prove it, then ask God yourself, or are you scared? eh? scaredy cat? scared God's gonna tell you you're an idiot? that he's gonna notice your collection of porn? get a life and stop hating people who are a damn sight more pleasant than you.

I know, its a good question and a good point.

my own response would be that some people need to plug that gap in their lives with ANYTHING, so will grab hold of whatever is going. On the plus side it gives them a sense of moral superiority and a reason to kill, hate, persecute and die, whilst never realising it is a figment of their own fear of lack of purpose or reason that makes them do so.

Notice how many people are simply not answering the question either?

I think the Da Vinici code and its controversy shows us that they'd all prefer it if we blindly follow without questioning why. Never mind the fact that surely they must agree we were created with the faculties to do so?
