Because a little knowledge is very dangerous. They haven't explored all the avenues and have only heard negative comments. They think they are smart by pointing out faults (the Bible is contradictory) but fail to see the good. They are the people who don't like all black people because they see one black person arrested for a crime and just assume all black people are bad. They've probably come across one to many Bible thumping jerk and have been jaded. I once thought that too, having had the Bible thumping idiots (those who know bits and pieces, but miss the point completely) in my youth.

I agree people should be more tolerant of other people, but geesh. If you look at the history of it, like Joseph Campbell did so extensively, you see the myths as myths, and that's fine, but to think that everything in the Bible actually happened is so ridiculous, that a lot of people say you must be stupid to take it literally. People think that some magical sky daddy waved his wand one day and created people, and that they rode dinosaurs to church on Sunday, and are going to burn in agonizing pain for all eternity if they have sex with their secretary. Umm, so maybe that's why.
Speaking of Einstein: “If there is any religion that would cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism.”

They don't conflict at all. In fact, they support each other.
Science and religion, intelligence and faith.... it all works hand in hand.
And I don't really think it is a great deal of people who are making a fuss otherwise. I just think it is the few loud ones. Squeaky wheel and all, you know.

g-d? i keep seeing that... what is that? "G to the D?" lol.
I agree, i don't believe intelligence has naythig to do with religion. I mean, if you consider the scop of the universe, then the 20 point IQ differnce between two people seems utterly insignificant, regardless of whterh someones belifs are true or not.

It's not a matter of intelligence, although the less intelligent tend to believe while the more intelligent tend not to. It's really a matter of strength of character. Those that are weak, need religion. Those that are strong do not.

I don't know. I am a non-believer and totally accept that smart people are religious. Many of my friends are. It makes for more interesting discussion
I think those are the dumb atheists that give us a bad name. Ignore them. There are stupid people from all over.

On average people who don't believe are more intelligent, but intelligent people can live without examining their own religion. My uncle is one. He is quite the genius.

people say mean things ,mostly because nobody knows who the other is and that's sad, and usually the ones that are putting down someones intelligence, is the one with the lowest intelligent, because they just don't know any other way to communicate, so don't take it heart, some people don't know any better ,you just have to look over them and forgive them.

I have not heard so many say that, but I would say it is unintelligent to count God out when they have no proof he does not exist.
