Nothing. It is a hole through which light enters.

Hi, I am not quite sure what your pupil is made up of.. That black part you are talking about is called the IRIS.

Generally speaking, it would be made up of CELLS. ;)

However, there is a art/science called iridology where by an iridologist can tell you the health condition of yourself, your parents and your future generation by just looking at the 'patterns' in your iris.

This is because the nerves that go through your body all end at the back of your iris and thus, you will be able to see from the nerves what is your condition.

It is very accurate. If you want to read more, you can go to google and type key words like 'Iridology' or "Dr Bernard Jensen" (he was father of holistic health and iridology was one of his speciality.

it is made of nothing, it is literally a hole, covered by a clear lens. It allows light through to tiny light receptors on the back of your eyes; these receptors include what are called rods & cones. One is resposible for color vision and depth percetion, while the other is responsible for low light vision and peripheral vision. The pupil constricts or dilates according to the light being picked up. When there are low light conditions your iris dilates to allow more light in to increase light affecting the rods & cones. If you are in bright light, like on a bright sunny day, your pupil constricts to limit the amount of light affecting the receptors, otherwise you would be blinded by light during the day.
Many predators, especially nocturnal ones have a far higher ratio of rods, which help their low light acuity, peripheral vision, movement detection.

nothing...it's a hole that is surrounded by the iris (colored part) which constricts or dilates to allow in the proper amount of light - which forms an image on the retina (back wall of the eye) which contains a nerve that sends that image to the brain.

think of it like a camera - the shutter is the iris, allowing light to come through the hole (pupil) and imprint an image on the film (retina).

The pupil is a hole in the iris, so it is made of nothing.
It is black, because all light is absorbed in the eye and does not reflect back.
