first of all if your hair is long you need to have lots of plates.secondly, you will need approximately two and a half tubes of straightening cream.it is a tedious process so do it in a good salon.starting from the hair near your neck they apply the cream and keep combing it.if your hair is thick leave it for an hour excluding the application time.after washing with water you have to iron your hair.then again you have to apply the neutralizer.that u have to apply from the base again and leave that also for an hour.then u wash your hair and blowdry it and iron it again.then your done.some people condition after drying the hair.

note:
1) Hair that is pulled during straightening, the straightening lasts longer.
2) if your hair is dry some salonists recommend spraying your hair with water and then doing the above process.
3) in some products like loreal there is only one tube.no neutralizer so it is easier to use if u are doing it yourself!
4)people with thin hair should use wellastrate (the red packet),the white packet wellastrate for medium hair and loreal for the thickest hair.

First, don't wash your hair for as long as you can possibly go. As odd as it sounds, keeping your hair dirty is better. The natural oils that your hair produces will build up in your hair. This actually aids in the perming of your hair. Also, don't over-comb your hair. Why? It helps to keep that scratching that you cause to your scalp from combing with a brush. Your scalp will burn to the point of causing your eyes to well up with tears from the burning. Second, ask around. Ask ppl who have had their hair done and who they would recommend. Personally, I wouldn't get those at home perm kits because it's possible that you may leave it in too long or not long enough. You can also damage your hair or have chemical burns.

Oh and its not a must, but I would try a black hair care salon first...

Buy a boxed perm from the store and follow the directions. Black women do it all the time, it's not hard. Or just go to the salon. It's better if you have a friend or someone to put it on for you. That way you can make sure they get every part covered with the perm correctly. Remember not to stratch your scalp for at least 3 days before getting a perm.

I've had mine done a couple of times. They use something like a hair perm solution-no curlers. Instead, they will constantly comb your hair straight for 20 minutes or so, then wash out like when getting a perm.
