It is called the information age because you can access almost anything you want (and much you don't want!) almost instantly from your own home or office ... or just about anywhere.

We can watch tragedies like tornadoes, hurricanes, war, and other events as they are happening. We can talk to, see, and interact instantly with people all over the world.

40 years ago, news was generally at least hours old, often days old, before you heard of it, and especially before you could see it.

If you wanted information, you had to go to the library, or where ever else the source was, and wade through drawers of 3 x 5 cards to find where the information might be stored, and then it was always months old, unless it was in a newspaper; or go through piles of microfiche, one at a time, searching for what you wanted.

You could make long distance calls, but the quality was often not good, especially if it was from one continent to another, and the costs were very high.

There were no cordless phones, and certainly no cell phones, and you dialed, not pushed buttons. If you wanted to make a call, you went home or used a pay phone. While answering machines existed, few average people had them.

I am using 1966 here as timeline.

I began hearing about the coming of the information age back in the early 80's, but would say the real experience of it did not become real to me until the late 90's, and today's technology is so far above that of 10 years ago it's mindboggling for such a short time.
