I live in California and was wondering if the heat ruined the bottles of wine I have in my kitchen. It was consistently 80-85 degrees F. in the house for 2 weeks.

It is not ideal, but wine is a lot more robust than many people think.

Check if thecorks have been pushed up out the neck. This is a real bad sign of spoilage., otherwise they're probably OK.

Don't keep them too long before opening. If they smell and taste OK, then they probably are.

Normally, red wine should be stored at 14 to 18 degrees C and white wine at 9 to 11 degrees C. These temps allow the wine to mature gracefully and reach their peak. Anything above that for 2 weeks means that your wine is already cooked.

warmth is wine's worst enemy: Even one hour in a warm vehicle trunk can destroy a wine thoroughly. An over heated wine will push the cork up and flow out lower than the foil pill leaving sticky runs down the aspect of the bottle. Overheated wine deteriorates very right now yet is frequently nonetheless sturdy for a short era after the shape.
