There are six billion people on the planet. Evidently it hasn't.
The best I can say is that religions periodically start wars, which kill off excess population. By keeping people away from education, they have denied people the fruits of the agricultural revolution and thus allowed people to die from hunger.
Apart from that, it usually translates to 'more babies = more believers', so they don't try hard.

I think religion controlled population by advocating abstinence..and this in turn, reduced the birth rate. Religion has always maintained that sex is only for procreation and not for entertainment. If more and more people indulged in sex,for entertainment(as they are probably doing now!!)there would be more births and thus an increase in the population. (Isnt it surprising then, that the world population is so high now??!!ha ha)
On the other hand,if sex is used only for procreation, then people would indulge in it,only when planning a family. Which means, less sex.
Besides, sex is a pleasure giving activity, which makes it "bad" as deemed by religion. Hence,to prevent people from really "enjoying"themselves,it advocates, abstinence and thus self restraint.
I hope I made it clear with this..Hope am not confusing you..!!!

it does in many different ways like people believing in God and what he stands for. Some of those people would probly be out killing commiting rapes and other crimes if they didnt have religion. So religion controling the population isn't as bad as some make it out to be.........

You're assuming that religion ever did control populations of people, which is debatable, at the very least.

By telling people that is they do not do good things they'll go to this place called hell, but if they do good they'll go to heaven.
But they also impose rules and regulations on how you are to live. Such as not eating meat on certain days or yo have to pray a certain number of times. In catholic mass you have to stand, sit, kneel during the entire mass.
It was based on early mans lack of understanding of how things work and assumed that some higher power controlled things...
Remember when you were a child and asked your parents what caused thunder and lighting? Chances are their response was "god" but as you got older you realized that there is a scientific explanation to things.
Most people have yet to let go of this idea and it has grown to be a virus if you will.

Religion does not control people. Only people can control people. And control freaks are to be found in all sectors of community life, not just in religion sector.

well, hitlers religion greatly affected the jewish population. The catholic religion killed many people also. Pagan religions encourage sex as a ritual, which i'm sure must lead to births.....
