He goes to the labor board and cries discimination...employers cannot discriminate due to age, race, creed or religion. You cannot impose your beliefs upon others, particularly as an employer.
Atheism is his choice, Christianity is yours. Put the shoe on the other foot and consider yourself his employee. Would you appreciate or stand silent while he does this to you because you are not Atheist? He has every right to have his beliefs or non beliefs as it where...and you have yours.
Good luck with this because if you go through with your idea you may be unemployed yourself...if you are a true Christian you won't follow through with this. You never know who may or may not be vindictive and you could be regretting your actions for a long time.
Play it safe and do it fairly...would Jesus do this to you if you didn't follow His Word to a T? Doubt it. Do likewise, you'll be blessed for doing so and showing tolerance...that's what Christianity is suppose to be about is it not?

As the others said, the employee will sue under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for religious discrimination. (see link) The company will be the one sued for the infringement, however, the company then has the right to fire you for your illegal actions. If you are the head of the company, it is possible that the company will be shut down or you will be replaced.
The only time I believe there is an exception to this is when it can be *proven* to be an integral part of the job - say this employee is a paster to a Christian church and then decides during his/her time as a paster that they do not believe in the religion any more, thus providing grounds for expultion. (I do not know where the rule is for this exception, however.)

Jesus was a man that died about 2000 or so years ago - nothing more. If you believe in Jesus - you are being punished by your own ignorance.
Do yourself a favor and live in the real world - the testable, repeatable observable world - like your smart employee.

Well, I'd say you'll get sued out of business and home. Possible jail time depending on what state you are in considering that that would be considered a denial of his constitutional right. If he gets the right lawyer and P.R. going, you could be charge with a hate crime.
And, if I was on the jury, thumbs down for you, dude!

P.S. oh yea, and the law says people have the right to believe in what they want to believe. Protecting ones right to worship as they wish also protects one's right to NOT worship as they wish.
Not to mention you would be forcing your beliefs on someone else witch is also a form of descrimination outlawed.
And, in a case some five years ago in SF, a busness was completely shut down by an atheist for descrimination.

I noticed that several of these answers said that you'd get in trouble because it is illegal to discriminate against people for their religious beliefs... but atheists don't HAVE any religious beliefs. How can you be discriminating against them on the basis of religious beliefs if they don't HAVE religious beliefs?
I think you ought to try it. That seems like a real loophole, to me. Why, with a good lawyer, you might even be able to turn the whole thing around and sue the scurrilous atheist for defamation of character. That would show 'em.

Then you'd have a Hell of a time in Court proving that you speak for Jesus.
Large fines including your employee's attorneys fees and possible imprisonment, not to mention the public mocking you'd get when it hit the national news.

That is definitely not the right thing to do. He has a choice. God does not command us to be christians. He gives us a choice for a reason. The best thing that you can do is pray for him that maybe one day he will trust in Jesus for his free gift of eternal life.

That's the way to go to get yourself into trouble with the law under a civil rights case buddy! By law you cannot discriminate against him. Businesses are not allowed to do this. He could sue for mega bucks. I think you're going to have to respect his rights and let god deal with him. I know how you feel though, at school sometimes I just feeling like punching them and make them come to their senses. Uh!

Who are you that you should be the judge for Jesus? Are you greater than he is that you can judge anyone? I doubt it, highly. The Bible clearly expresses that an employer needs to pay his employees fair wages for fair work done.
