Instead of using a traditional fishing pole, you can get a fishing pole that has a push button on the reel that would be much easier for him to use. I started off using that type of fishing pole when I was 5 and it was easy for me to cast the line in. You can find them at a sporting goods store, or Wallmart. I found these http://www.zebco.com/catalog/youth.html but you can probably find some that aren't so fancy. He can even put night crawlers on the hook or salmon eggs. Meal worms or cheese would be easiest for him. Put a bobber on the line so he can see when he gets a bite. Make sure there are sinkers on the line. You can also get a rope with hooks on it to keep you catch on. You put this in the water with the fish to keep them fresh. Get a net so you can fish your catch out, a hook removal tool, and a pole holder so he can set his pole down. Make sure you have a fishing license. Brings a first aid kit, water, and sunscreen. Have fun!

You can buy a little kid starter kit at any sporting goods store. Wal-Mart and Sears have them too. They're about 20$ and they have a rod (reel) and a net. Make sure they're dressed for it, and that the place that you take them is safe enough. No rocks on a rushing river side to start.
Fishing can be really fun for a 5 year old, but don't 'make' them do anything. They're going to need a lot of help.

My 6 year old loves to fish. He casts better than I do. Well I let him pick out his own pole he likes the stink bait that really bright colored stuff but I think it is good for them to learn to put the worms on. My dad has taken him alot and got him all set up with the line and a hook but a bobber is fun so they can see exactly where the line is and if it goes down they have a fish my son always gets so excited. Something to practice casting is practice plugs so they can get used to casting and the safety of it so they don't hook ya. Hope you have fun.

Evan, i'd would desire to consider Jon whilst any ones first instinct is to declare the jon boat, its because of fact the 1st theory is of stability with slightly baby i've got had my coleman scanoe for 18 years now and function very almost fished completely in saltwater. i've got taken young ones as youthful as 3. Heres what i've got discovered; Even little young ones decide rapid the place the balancing factor is on a canoe. because of fact that an person outweighs a tyke, they'd hold close exceptionally a procedures over with none real possibility of falling over, or worse tipping the canoe, that's only a brilliant drag for each individual. Falling in is falling in, no count if in a jon boat or a canoe, if a baby is that lots of a spaz, then he should not be in any boat, era even although my canoe has a metallic transom, and that i take advantage of a trolling motor to fish with my person buddies, I continuously paddle with this style of infants your speaking approximately. It makes them an energetic participant, somewhat than a passive occupant. slightly baby won't in any respect ever forget you took him out in a canoe.

Naturally, you need a couple of fishing poles. Some hooks, sinkers, a net, bobbers that float on the surface of the water and some bait. Usually worms or night crawlers. Those things should get you started.

Buy him a small kid size rod & reel.
Any dept store that has sports stuff (Walmart) the person there can show you everything you'll need.
You will have to cast his rod for him. and becarefull of the HOOK.
You can use the rubber baits on the hook. or
Take a piece of bread, and make dough balls and put those on the end of the hook.
