yes. Alcohol is a disease. I have been so quite a couple A.A.(alcoholic anonymous) and go to N.A. meetings(narcotics anonymous) regularily. Alcoholism is a disease. It is because alcoholics lose control of it (like diseases) and we cant stop it without recovery and help (like diseases). If you or someone you know has a problem with alcohol, you should enter a facility that can help you or attend meetings. At meetings you will be able to hear others share about it, talk to others privately, get literature that tells you more about this disease, get a step working guide, get some other phone numbers, get a sponsor, and much more. There are MANY people willing to help you and work with you, all an alcohol has to do is reach out to others. For more information go to: http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/?Media=PlayFlash

or feel free to email me if you have any more questions. I would be more than happy to answer them

As a recovering alcoholic, I answer this with a resounding yes. It's incurable, but easily managed if you stay aware of it and recognize what triggers you to have a relapse.

By the way: the AMA (the American Medical Association) recognizes it as a disease, too. Like many cases of diabetes it can be managed with some effort and perseverance. I've gone over ten years without a relapse. It can be done.

If you know someone who has it, don't give up hope.

Habitual intoxication; prolonged and excessive intake of alcoholic drinks leading to a breakdown in health and an addiction to alcohol such that abrupt deprivation leads to severe withdrawal symptoms. An intense persistent desire to drink alcoholic beverages to excess. Yes, sadly it is a disease.
