Very much so. Even though there are a couple who have personality traits and habits that I don't care much for (or in some cases, just can't stand), I still respect the fact that they are my elders and are my elder family members. I treat them with respect for that reason - but mostly I treat them with respect out of respect for my parentls because I know that my behavior and attitude is an indirect reflection on my parents - whether it should be or not.

Elders in general, I treat with the same respect as I do everyone. My family members with more because I know personally how much respect they deserve,.

I dont blindly respect anyone. Just because they are family doesnt mean they are a decent person worthy of respect either. In my family I have a great deal of respect for some members and absolutely none for others. Its an individual thing :)

I respect people, where respect is deserved. I do not feel that just because of blood relations or age, that people should be respected without question.

You can be stupid at any age. Unfortunately, my mothers side of the family fights a lot amongst themselves. They can be stubborn, unrealistic, critical and rude. It is hard to respect the people that display that behaviour and are meant to be role models.

I respect my mother as she respects me. I respect my father because he acts like a role model and deserves respect. I respect my Grandfather as he is an incredible person and deserves everyones respect - but he doesn't always get it from his kids. The rest are a wipeout.

I respect any who is my elder until they do something that shows me they don't deserve my respect. Even then I would never disrespect them publicly unless they put me in a situation where It couldn't be helped. A lot of our young people need to learn this. When I was a child lf any adult walked in the room and there were no empty seats, my father had better not have to ask me to get up and offer my seat. If he did I was in a lot of trouble.

Very much, thanks to remind me..am so busy in Yahoo Answers, i had almost forgotton. You see we all are so very much busy doing everything and in the process forget some of the very basic things that we should be doing every now and then, like respect elders, show affection and warmth towards them, make them feel wanted, belonged to, establish that 'bond' which seems to be grossly missing these fast days. Thanks for reminding. I just spoke to my family and they are doing fine (i stay 5,000 miles apart from my family). You know what? My wife is sending me a courier with some goodies thru someone coming here. It has given me a sense of belonging too. Thanks a lot.

I respect them a lot. I don't have a screwed up family though. Ordinarily I would say that respect is earned, but as far as my family members are concerned, they have never done anything unworthy of gaining my respect.

Actually age doesn't matter whoever is righteous, strong-willed and peaceful altogether, that person only deserves the respect. Luckily I hav such people in my own family I respect them. But thr r some relatives and known people who not only misses those points but also oppse them by calling them "stupidity". Livin in a harsh world hav made them despots and selfish. They don't live right anymore. So greetin them or not I don't respect them.

When I was younger I thought I knew everything and they knew nothing. And the older I get the smarter they become. I use my discernment when it comes to respect. I may not agree with their opinions but I will take it into consideration and for the most part for go expressing mine unessl I have a good reason not to.

I am Native American and Italian and elders are extremely honored in our traditions in both lines. Elders should be respected and treasured and not thrown away like trash.
