A metaphor is a rhetorical trope defined as a direct comparison between two or more seemingly unrelated subjects.
A trope is a rhetorical figure of speech that consists of a play on words.
If god is a word, in fact a play on words, then god is a trope.
If god is a word, and these two things are seemingly unrelated, then god is also a metaphor.
Problem solved. We can all go home now.

If you continue to read John Chapter 1 as you are quoting, you will see that the "Word" or Logos in Greek is referring to Jesus, which is also why it is capitalized.
John 1:1
"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. (vs14) The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (vs17) For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
God was not spoken into existance. He has always been. He calls himself "the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End" There was nothing before him and there will be nothing after him. I don't know where you got this idea, but you should read the whole book of John its only 21 chapters long to get a whole understanding of what John is saying.

God was not spoken into existence. The CONCEPT of God was spoken into existence. God has no beginning and end. If God was spoken into existence, there must be another higher God. But we believe that God is the highest.

Translation ...
John 1:1 - Perhaps the most fascinating verse in the bible. It chronicles the life of Jesus from the perspective of John. Along with Matthew, Mark and Luke, the book of John tells the life (of Gospel) of Jesus Christ. In the beginning (repeated from Genesis) there was the Word (Word = Jesus), the Word (Jesus) was God and the Word was with God. This speaks directly to TWO of the THREE entities of God.
Before you deny Him, attempt to know Him. If you earnest seek Him, He will find you.

The Apostle John used the term "logos" as an analogy to explain God to those well-versed in the Greek philosophy of his day. Greek philosophers considered one's speech to be an extension of one's self, still retaining all the source's attributes. This is what John intended to describe about the Son (word) relative to the Father (source).

wait! if god was spoken into existence, who spoke of him? there had to be someone to speak of him if he was spoken into existence. and what about the person who did the speaking? where did they come from? did they get spoken into existence too, or were they just there? is it possible to be just there? or was god just there and spoke about himself so that people would realize he was there? was he the person who did the speaking about himself so that he was spoken into existence? is that possible? god, i'm so confused...

It means god doesn't exist! There is no evidence that anything has ever been "spoken into existence".

I believe all matter is connected. God is a consciousness beyond our own. God then was created when the universe was created. Though in science there is an idea of multiple dimensions. This I think makes sense.
