I completely agree with you.
Religions were invented when people were extremely ignorant and brute, to control them and calm them down by fear.
Now people is supposedly more intelligent than then...
But with stupid ignorants like the one that answered just above me, I doubt all of them evolved... for them religion is just about right...

You can't even write a good sentence. Of course, the first thing is to never assume people know what you are thinking, without you stating it clearly. You say, "how can anyone believe in a religion..." yet you don't specify what religion. Do you mean all religions or just one religion? I believe you are referring to the Christian religion if I were to guess. Then you go on to say that that religion was created at a time when people were no smarter than modern third graders as if that were true. Do you know that they have had to adjust the ACT and SAT tests downward because modern students just are not as smart as students used to be? Television shows have to be geared even lower than the ninth grade that it used to be geared to because the present population can't comprehend even on a ninth grade level? Compared to the rest of the world, American students score near the bottom percentile of the world, while Asian students score at the top in academic tests. America is producing less and less engineers and Asia is producing more. Soon all the engineers will be gone from the U.S. and Asia will have the majority of the engineers of the world. America has been steadily dumbed down. IN this generation 2+2= whatever makes you feel good. We sure don't want you to suffer a bad self image. So there is no consequence to not studying. We can play our video games, eat, sleep, and have promiscuous sex, without any thought about tomorrow. And we don't believe in anyone telling us what we can and cannot do
either. Can you see an Asian student accepting such nonsense? They go to school and study very hard for long hours of the day, with few breaks. A typical American student couldn't endure one day of class that a Chinese student endures. To an Asian, we are undisciplined, immoral and woefully stupid. So before you start arrogantly denigrating past generations, you'd better take better stock of this present dumbed down generation. Think before you speak drivel.

you have knowledge and intelligence confused - people who wrote the religious books were emminently more intelligent than our current 3rd graders. even if you discount the true/false aspect of religion there is sophisticated literature contained in these books whether they are Christian , Muslim, Hindu , Shinto, or whatever. I'll grant you that 4000 years ago people didn't cruise the internet or know about spaceflight or radioactivity but that stuff is empirical knowledge not intelligence. Maybe the story of Creation is just big fiction or the Flood or The Tower of Babel but the stories are beyond the writing capabilities of 3rd graders.

Take any person that knows how to build a simple 1000 sqft home and give him the tools they had 2000 yrs ago 99% will tell you it can't be done properly yet they managed 2000 yrs ago so they were far smarter than you give them credit for. that was just a home look at the pyramids and other places that are still standing heck go to rome or athens and tell me them aint some smart 3 graders back then............

you think that's how it is?
check out drdino.com. It talks about people in the early days. Like, how were poeple smart enough to build the pyramids, and we couldn't even do that today? How did they build stonehenge?
on this website is archeological proof that egyptians had electricity long before it was discoverd in our day, and other such discoveries. You thik we're smart now? You should have seen us back then! (i think we kinda lost it due to inbreeding; i mean, there were only two people who started the human race.....)

Have you noticed over the last 30 years as religion has been pushed out of schools, so has the education dropped? Just an acute observation on my part.

your abject ignorance is so staggering that it hardly deserves a response
To speak of the people who wrote the Bible as if they had no intellegence or to equate their intellegence level to that of third graders proves my point as to your own emaculate misconceptions
We're talking among others ---individuals instrumental in the formation of entire cultures ---leaders of millions of people at a time when there were no logistical mechanisms in place to assist in the care and well being of the masses--lyrical geniuses that wrote poems that stand in quote to this day in some of the top literary circles in the world community---individuals that turned the tide of history with their insight and leadership--------who the bloody hell are you talking about-----and these so called morons that wrote this book ----are still in print after hundreds of years and still influencing people around the world on a daily basis--------what have YOU done lately --einstein ???
On top of everything else it always stuns me when I hear these brilliant dorks that lay out the case for the human intellegence quotion as some kind of ticket not to believe in a creator or in the story and truth of salvation---when all you have to do to see the true intellegence of man in it's oh so developed granduer is to simply look around----yeah dude we are some really brilliant folk on this piece of crap floating in space---our little pickled brains have got it all worked out---we've sit down in our own little corner of space ---sucking on our sugar sticks and day dreaming our way into a state that tells us that WE are all there is---and we've figured out all the details of why there can't be a God and how all this stuff is so much garbage and etc etc etc etc etc etc
But yet we can't figure out how to cure the common cold or settle how to end the traffic jams that keep us from being late for work every day-----------damn dude----------get a life--------and if your going to take on something to critique -----stick with something you know----like what the weather is like in your back yard or something !!!!!!!!!!!!1

Do you think aristotle was as smart as a third grader?
You are obviously very ignorant of the ancient philosophers and their works.

Interesting question. I can answer this question with a question. How come we were able to build the great pyramids back then, but cannot duplicate them now? They must have known something back then to build such great structures with a 3rd grade education and no machinery and equipment.
