lead is toxic and you need to know the levels. if you work with lead you have to stop when you reach the max level or you'll get sick and die horribly

Lead serves no function in our blood, but the lead can be toxic to people (especially children) if present in high enough levels. And there are those who work in certain industries where they are constantly exposed to high levels of lead within their environments, it is good to check that their bodies have not been accumulating too much of it, hence the tests.
