It's not a choice for humanity. It's a choice for individuals to make for themselves. I do agree with you about religion's complete and utter failure, however. It ranks among the most violent institutions men have ever invented.

Religion is NOT bad!!!
I hate it when people say stuff like that. What's bad is the way society is tearing it up. Religion is a belief structure that can help people.
Children who grow up with a solid belief structure--no matter *what* religion it is--are happier, healthier, more stable, and all around better people. Religion doesn't hurt people, making such a big fuss about it DOES.
Growing up, I was taught my religion, I still say my prayers every night, grace before every meal, and I believe. I know that I have been provided for in my life.
Why do people like you make such a big deal about it? What is so wrong with feeling good inside, with knowing that there is something greater out there, and having the power to overcome the troubles in your life? Nothing, that's what. I'm not saying that everything in every religion is good. But having faith is the biggest part of it.
If a child is being made fun of for being fat, or stupid, or being slow, or just plain being different, and then they go home, pray about it, and are comforted, why is that so wrong? If someone who has nothing left still has his or her faith, and they feel at peace because of that, how is that bad?
Stop criticizing what you apparently do not understand.

Religion is not in itself bad, but more the way individuals decide to follow or pervert their religion.
Most, if not all, religions have a similar message of love and understanding.
Individuals however, corrupt this by insisting that their type of love and understanding is better than someone elses.
Why not teach our children simple love and understanding. Love being our caring for others and understanding being not hung up with others colour, race or choice of religion.
Why not focus on how we treat eachother rather than trying to "convert" eachother.
People need to make up their own mind and our kids need to know if they want to be christian then that is ok. If they want to be muslim than that's ok. If they want to be Buddists then that's ok. What ever they choose, as long as they show love and understanding (which we need to show them not just tell them) slowly the world will become a better place.

Yes, it's true religion has had negative effects on poeple. And even Jesus rebuked "religious" people, the hyporcritcal knowledgable types who flaunt their beliefs like a badge. Indeed, religion has negative effects on people, but God has great effects on humanity!
We went and visited the tsunami area in southern Thailand. It was full of poeple who had lost everyhting and were looking for answers. And many found their answer in God, who provides healing, shelter, and peace.
In Pakistan, the poverty mindset has trapped much of the society into the idea that, as long as they can make it thru day by day, they'll be fine. And then God comes along and brings them out of that poverty.
These are just a couple examples in a very large world where God is moving on his people and, in fact, removing much of the religious holds that ensare the poepl of this planet.

Do guns kill people? Or does somebody have to pull the trigger? You can't blame religion for what humanity has done to itself. Yes, I would love a better world for my children and that's why I'm religious. I don't see any other form of hope out there.

I am waiting for the day when the state will decide that very thing, and yank the kids from the believers' arms, sending them off to re-education centers.
What a sad day that will be. A repeat of Rachel's mourning. And the compassionate, enlightened ones will glory in their indoctrination.

Media will unite the world. When everyone is watching the same movies and listening to the same music, we will no longer hate eachother, and will no longer kill eachother. We need to express your statement in the media. We need to paint our picture on the big screen in a way that it matters to people. There is ample basis to do that, your statement is right.

Buhddism isn't that bad, and represents 1/4 of the religion on earth. Children need to be raised to be ethical, but it need not be religious ethics.
