It is for the purpose of debate. I keep my mind sharp by debating many topics with others here, including religion. I am also fighting to keep my community and country secular, as our founding fathers set it up to be. My son will grow up in this country and I want him to have the freedom to NOT believe and not be ridiculed for it. So I come here to try to understand the Christian mind and TRY to find some Christians who aren't trying to take over the country and eliminate all of my (and my son's) rights with their religion.

Because religion is as much a part of our culture as yours, just because we don't believe in a God doesn't mean it isn't an interesting topic and that we can't discuss it. I think the religious section is for people to ask questions about religion and to answer questions about religion. It is not only for those who have a belief. Why do people think that because you are an atheist or because you don't belong to a specific religion that you don't have knowledge of religions, opinions about religions or that you can't be civil and discuss religion. I enjoy learning about anything. The ones who are rude are immature and just trying to cause problems and hate.

I have seen a lot of real questions about theology and scripture but there are a lot of silly, crude, stupid and down right offensive questions. I have no idea why people who hate religion ask fake questions here. Odd isn't it?
I do think though that some of these people are prideful enough to think they have a unique question that will shake up all us Christians and cause us to "come over to the dark side".

The purpose of Religion and Spirituality on Yahoo! Answers to ask and answer questions regarding religion and spirituality.
The non-believers who come to badger believers are definitely looking for answers. We ought to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. Meaning that we should give a kind and true word to sincere seekers, and also to give a boot to the head and a true word to mockers.
Penalties are prepared for mockers,
and beatings for the backs of fools.
A whip for the horse, a halter for the donkey,
and a rod for the backs of fools!
I love my Bible.

Don't be so pompous. The religion and spirituality section is for people of faith and people with no fait. Just because you don't believe does not change the subject title. They are posting question and answer based on their beliefs, that is what every section is for.

Sharing, Learning, Teaching, Helping, Searching,Pressuring, Degrading, Convincing, Cramming it down your throat, Having nothing better to do, Trying to down grade what they are so far from, but if they comment on it, they must have a urge to find out about it!
Most often I don't answer any of the stupid ones, but some I have been bad and have put them in their place...
Not that I am by NO means anything, but some just irked me!

i believe they are trying to inform you of their opinion, which is no more or less right than any believer's would be.
obviously it is within their rights to do so.
Also, "the purpose of this site" is not just "to ask questions about religion". Its by far not the only thing people want to know about!

The purpose of R&S is to provide a home for trolls with no other place to go.
And the purpose of religion is to create convenient explicatives.

Because of the current onslaught of attacks on religion that is plaguing America. They wish to silence us while they enjoy the freedom to express themselves.
