If it had been full and I drank half, it'd be half empty.

If it had been empty and I filled it half way up, it'd be half full.

Yes, I KNOW you're speaking metaphorically, but the metaphor has become an overused cliche, IMHO. You can't divide people into optimists and pessimists as if they can only be one or the other. Black or white, half empty or half full. It depends on the circumstances and if my cup was half empty yesterday it might be half full today.

BTW is "overused cliche" redundant? LOL

Hey my man, the glass has to be half full. It can't be any other way because empty is the equivalent of zero and you know from your math class you can't divide anything into zero; therefore the glass must be half full.

It depends what happened to make it that way. IF someone filled up the glass in the first place, and some was pored out, it's now half empty.
BUT
If someone was filling it up and stopped, it's half full!

Salvikicks,

Your answer is the best.
In all my years, I never came across
half-way. Great way to look at it.

Thanks for a new approach to life
and for 2 points, as well.

Half a blast!

half full, always. Life's too short to grump about what you don't have, and you can't be unhappy when you are busy being grateful for the blessings you have.

Depends on what you are drinking. I see a cup with some drink in it and ask if it is mine.
