I live in Tennessee, I have family from Mississippi, I go to school in North Carolina, and I've pretty much traveled all over the South, but I have to say that the worst accent I've ever heard was from some distant cousin's children. They were from Kentucky and their accent was so country, I could hardly understand them. And the people in the little mountain towns of Appalachia speak a completely different language.

I don't think my accent is bad at all. The only people who think I have an accent come from places with strong accents themselves, like Boston and New York.

It's not just a state, it's parts of a state. The only places I've ever lived are Alabama and Louisiana and I've been told I don't really have a southern accent. If I were comparing these two states, I would say Alabama because a lot of people in Louisiana have a completely different accent that isn't considered "country".

I like southern accents. I'm from the midwest so they all sound the same to me.. except Louisiana. Southern accents just sound so polite to me. I get sick of hearing the nasally jerks in IL and WI.

Don't you mean the most southern accent? I think the southern accent is way better thatn a Boston or New York accent.

L.A. Lower Alabama has the worst accent, I'm from KY and thought we were freakin' hick, red-necks but in Lower Alabama I was a little nervous.

The people who monophongize the two vowels. For example instead of saying boy (oi) they say bo (o). Thats country for ya. Some people uses double negative like "ain't never gonna". Its not bad but hard to understand.

By far, it has to be North Carolina. Too twangy and "kuntry" for me. I live in Georgia (not too bad here!) and Virginia (NICE accent) and the people from NC were always the whiney, super country ones.

None. Southern regional accents are derived from the older speech of the original settlers. Southern speech has been characterized as musical and descriptive.

Northern speech, on the other hand, is unlovely and lacks poetry.

Louisiana has the worst accent, and Texas would be more country.
