Hi,
I found a small hard lump in the side of my neck about 1.5 inches below my ear. I now have some neck pain and stiffness but still no pain from the lump as such. I'm early 20's with some fatigue, headaches and occasional bouts of extreme itchiness lasting a few minutes on my chest and back. Not sure if all this is related.... any one have an idea?

Well the best thing to do is to get it check out by a skin care doctor or your regular doctor. It can be a bacterial infection, allergic reaction, or a small tumor (sorry don't mean to scare you). But get it check out.

It is very likely a lymph node.
Your body has small lymph nodes located below the
ears, underarms, groin area, among others.
They help produce infection-fighting agents so your body was probably fighting an infection, and this causes the lymph node to grow. It is usually not anything harmful, but it does produce a little bit of pain from the swelling at times, not necessarily in the lymph node itself but in the surrounding areas.
Please read the following explanation in the wikipedia link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymph_node
I have had this before in my neck... it goes away after a few months... if you try to have it checked, some physicians will try to insert a needle in it to conduct some test, but it is not really necessary unless you feel that it continues to grow.
So my best advice would be to continue to monitor its size week by week.

Most likely a lymph node. There are a large number of nodes in the neck or cervical region. An enlarged node may be that the node is working, but what concerns me is that the lump is hard. A hard, fixed node should be checked out.

If you had chicken pox as a child, The virus never leaves your body, Alot of times it will gather in the neck area.
I have the same thing and that's what I was told by several doctors at different times.
Best to see a doctor just in case though.

It could be a pimple you scratched or tried to pop with a needle and thread that has become infected. Most likely a lump beneath the skin will indicate an infection. It would be advisable to visit a physician so that he can do a diagnosis on you and most likely prescribe you anti-biotics.

Sounds like a submandibular node.
Hard = get in to the doctor to have it checked out
Could it be a stone in your salivary gland? Yes
Could it be something like Hodgkin's? Yes
Go in
You are in an age group that this is a dangerous sign...
Please see your doctor asap

More than likely, it's a cyst. Get it checked out, because it could be putting pressure on your major artery in your neck, which would cause dizziness.
Only a doctor can really tell you.
