I have absolutely NO interest in watching the Passion of the Christ and I'll tell you why. I went to a hideous torture chamber of a Catholic school (watch another enlightening movie called the Magdalene Sisters to get an idea) when I was young and every year, around Easter time, they would make us watch Jesus of Nazareth...it was very graphic and gory to me as a child, and I had to close my eyes so I wouldn't puke. There was one kid in my class who would pass out every year too from the trauma...imagine a 6'2 kid crashing to the ground and taking the desk along with him. Only then would they turn off the movie. But they would show it again every year!! Why would a so-called "Christian" school subject 9-12 year-olds to this? Oh yeah, to drill it into our heads that "Christ died for us" and make us feel guilty and obey the teachers, I guess. They would also take us to the church and go through the stations of the cross which would take hours, and they would describe the torture of Jesus in great detail...I think I cried a couple of times back then too. I think the whole idea of Jesus dying for our sins is really F'd up.

I think you should remember that this movie is based on one man's (Mel Gibson's) view of Christianity - not what all of Christianity teaches or has believed from the beginning. God did not "kill" His Son, or torture him or any such thing. Christ's death on the Cross was manmade, even if He foresaw it and voluntarily accepted it. But He also arose from the dead and is alive, enthroned at the right hand of the Father in heaven, and invisibly present among His people here on earth.
It's true that many people believe what Mel Gibson portrayed in his move. But the version of Christianity you have heard that says God killed His Son is a major distortion of true Christianity, and you should learn more about what the real Christian faith is before coming to wrong conclusions about it.

Every religion believes in some sort of a sacrifice as a symbol of absolving themselves from sin. The muslims have it, the hindus have it, the buddhists have it. It could be the sacrifice of an animal or the sacrifice of ones own pleasures, belongings, etc.
In the early days sacrifice of animals was how man absolved himself of his sin. God did not see this as good. Man just sinned freely and then washed it all away with a sacrifice of an innocent being. God decided to put an end to this by making the ultimate scarifice. His son would die on the cross as a once for all sacrifice. One could be now washed of their sins by just believing in the name of Jesus. In fact Jesus knew his mission when he came to live among men. We are saved because he died on the cross.

Not a Christian (sorry), but I have refused to watch that film because I determined from the trailers and the reviews that I could not stomach it. You're more brave than I. For me, watching it would be an act of masochism.
I cannot buy the Christian mythos about Jesus needing to die to redeem humanity, but I hope knowing the Passion story makes people sensitive to the kinds of suffering present in the world. Anything we can do to reduce it is worthwhile.

well i havent watched Passion of the Christ yet... (so i'm slower than you. lol) so idk what the movie says or anything. so i'm gonna answer this by using the BIBLE. ok well john 3:16 says "For God so loves the world that he sent his 1 and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16. "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." -John 3:17.
so we're all God's children. but Jesus is like God's Son. Jesus is Mary and God's son. Jesus didnt WANT to die, but he new that he had to. Because he was perfect, and we're nt, he had to die on the cross so that we can get into heaven. so evn tho the whole story is so sad, it still has a point. and the point isnt that Jesus was insanly abused. the point is that Jesus loved us SOOO much, that he gave up his life so that us sinners can get into heaven to be with God and him. and God loved us so much, that he would have his son killed so that we could all b with him in heaven, if we believe in him. The story shows how much Jesus himself loves us, because God gives us freedom of choice and Jesus could have chose nt to die on the cross but he did anyways bcuz hes nt selfish and he loves us very much.

I have not and will not see the movie but I will tell you this. Jehovah is loving and all powerful and perfectly just. I don't claim to understand it completely but I do know that he has the power over death, that Jesus chose to come here and do this so that he might be able to replace Adam as our father and give us a choice to live forever. No doubt it was a difficult thing for both of them but they believed in you and the ability you have to make the right choices. Don't dismiss this sacrifice lightly. It was done out of love for you.

God knew He could raise His Son up again, and allowed Him to die to save the likes of you and me.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The pain is in the body, no where else...
Most people are driven by physical comforts, discomforts, urges, passions, desires, cravings, and what not.
The whole point is about not compromising on values just to avoid certain physical tortures. And to re-inforce this , the resurrection (the point of torture to body being a non-issue even without resurrection !), the need of resurrection again being based on the mind set of the then onlookers, who are innocent and intellectually evolved only upto a certain level !

No , Because of the sin committed in the garden of Eden god did not want to punish all of us because he left un done the punishment from that time, and because he is holy he must judge sin , and instead of having to punish us for our sin he provided Jesus as the Savior who would take your and my sin away be the sacrifice for us! This is an act of LOVE ON GODS PART! Better than that Jesus was God manifested as a man to do this for us! read the rest of the story, he raised himself from the dead and gave him all Glory! go read the book of john
