I watch a lot of true crime shows. Don't you think all people who murder other people are insane? I mean at least temporarily? I know everyone tries to plea insanity and this angers people. But how could any person sanely kill another human?

Ok, war and self defense don't count.. good point. But I'm talking about people who murder innocent people that don't deserve to die.

You have to remember that every person has different values or morals. It might not be objectionable to some people to kill. My answer is no i don't think someone is insane because they kill.

Something is desperately out of que as most people who murder do so in the heat of passion. For this reason they do not fit the "insanity" defense, although a good many try. The feeling is so fleeting that a good prosecutor can easily tear apart the insanity defense. Also, murdering in the heat of passion is exactly why the death penalty is not a deterrent to murder. These murders are not pre-meditated, meaning there was no thought given to the act let alone the possible consequences. And I agree with you, something is wrong, no sane person would kill another person. Unfortunately or not, our justice system sees people as good and bad, not as sick or healthy. A healthy person would be very unlikely to commit murder, although it has happened. And if they are sick then our justice system would have to admit it's failings or denounce the foundations, that being swift justice and start to treat people with medical care instead of judicial remedies. Would put a whole lot of people out of work and not likely to happen any time soon. Peace.

Can you not think of some scenario in which it would be acceptable, or even merciful, to kill someone? Imagine you and your mom go hiking and she falls down a ravine and breaks both legs and after two days you haven't been rescued and you can't help her out of the ravine and a pack of wolves comes to prey on her. If you were holding a firearm with only one bullet, and knew you couldn't chase off all the wolves, wouldn't you at least contemplate a merciful end for your mother? (Substitute any family member or friend in this scenario) Or would you sit by, passively, watching this person be torn to shreds?
So, is it murder? Technically. But if I'd asked ten minutes ago, would you ever shoot your mother, you'd have said no.
Is it so hard to see how some social derelict might travel down the path of 'logic' to arrive at the decision to murder someone? Does that make him or her insane? I don't think so.

I do, however, consider all murderers to be sociopaths, that being one who does not conform to social standards. A murderer might have perfectly logical and sane reasons for having murdered someone; that doesn't make him insane, just a sociopath by definition.

I think that they all have mental problems yes. I just can't see how someone can kill anothe person, it is just wrong and those people should be put away for life . The same goes for child molesters " tax payers shouldn't complain that they are paying to keep those criminals behind bars they should be telling the government to use that money properly and that way those criminals can pay for what they do.

Not really. What if you already know you're going to hell? Then you'll find strength in evil.

Once you're almost certain you're going to hell, you'll want some respect once you get there. Convince people you're cold blooded and you'll get bullied a little less once you're down there.

There really is some sound logic behind it. God doesn't let everyone into heaven, you know. Some people have to prepare for the alternative.
