It sounds very much like she is teething. It's time to get her something worth chewing on to help her get those teeth through. Let her have the lotion bottle, just make sure you keep it clean, it won't hurt her as long as it is empty and too big to swallow.

As far as the shoes go, tie them with a double bow so she can't untie them. That probably won't stop her though, she will just bring her foot up to her mouth so you need to have something else around that is easier to get at and to teeth with.

Part of it too could be just natural curiosity, babies learn not only by touch but smell and taste too.

Good luck.

I would find a snack or something she likes and start keeping those on hand. I always leave snacks that dont spoil sitting around the house in her reach and refill them along with a couple water cups sitting near her toys and on our coffee table.

She really needs corrected on this because the sole of a shoe is so nasty. It never gets cleaned and walks in who knows what. /puke. Maybe try sneaking up on her when she is chewing on shoes and scare the be-jeepers outta her by yelling NO real stern. Shoe chewing/outlet playing was the two things I was real stern and mean about with my daughter.

I know how horrible some may think this is, but my daughter found great relief in chewing on infants tylenol bottle. One night when she was fussy and nothing was working I went to WalMart and bought a bottle of cheap infant tylenol....I rinsed it out, peeled off the lable and put cute stickers on it. She didn't chew on the sticker part just the squeezy part and that satisfied her need to chew for months!!!

It might be those are the things she can hold onto the easiest. If she will not accept a store bought teething ring let her have a lotion bottle. Clean it out really good and drop it into a pot of boiling water for a couple of minutes to sterilize it. (don't give it to her hot). It might be embarrasing to give it to her in public but at home let her be happy and comfortable.

My son is the same age and does the same thing. I have tried everything. I hide everything, i slap his hands, I give him chew toys and nothing works. He finds what he wants and chews on it. So good luck and if you find something that works please let me know.

It's simply up to you and Dad to make sure all things are put up and away and she only has toys to put in her mouth..........Then you wouldn' have to slap your childs hands..You're the adult, I think!
