I need to secretly disable my panasonic tv as my son is becoming too addicted to video games and needs to take a break. He is 17 and only listens to his father who is not concerned, but my son is actually getting fat and irritable and ignoring his friends.

1. Take away the controls and hide them.
2. Flip the breaker where the game is plugged in and leave it off.
3. Be the parent-I am 16 and I love my video games, but if my mom told me to get off, then I would.

Unplug it, or remove the fuse/disable the breaker in the fuse box. Don't try to open and tamper with the inner workings of the television set yourself. TV's use voltages at power levels that are potentially lethal. Normally, these are safely enclosed to prevent accidental contact. However, if you open the cabinet in an attempt to disable your TV set, the safety interlocks may be defeated. Depending on overall conditions and your general state of health, there is a wide variation of voltage, current, and total energy levels that can kill. Don't risk it.

most tvs have a kid mode. you can activate it and it will need the remote to get out of that mode.
Keep the remote with you.
Check the instructions.
if he's smart, he will find another panasonic remote to turn the tv on though.

As others have said this problem may not be specific to the tv but with parenting. Then again, my kids are 1 and 3 and it's already hard to get them to listen sometimes so i can't blame you too much.

Get a kitchen timer and set it when he plays. Give him a reasonable time limit each day, and when it dings turn the TV off. My parents used to do that.

Get his butt into therapy. It sounds more like he has issues and uses the game to escape. The game isn't the problem the situation he is in. Get to the problem before it's too late!
