They sometimes bug me. Movies like The Craft, and now this movie, The Covenant, it looks like The Craft but with guys instead of girls. It creates "trend patterns" that I'm quite comptentuous of. Is there too much hate in my heart?

These movies are usually geared around something unknown and scary to the general public. You can't take apart every aspect and ask that it not portray things in a bad light. If you did that the cops could ask that they never be shown as bad guys, people would ask that their culture or colour not be shown badly, don't make fun of this and don't touch that. Pretty soon there is nothing to make a movie with. We all have to take our jabs. Just don't see the ones that tick you off or don't take it too seriously. You have to admit, after seeing some of the questions in here, that there are those that would do stupid stuff with magic and pagan based beliefs. It doesn't mean we are all like that any more than all good looking men with nice parents will not leave home, as in Failure to Launch.
To the general public, how entertaining would it be to watch a nice ritual, people playing with all the children, history lessons from our teachers, drumming, etc.?
We do good works and lead helpful lives, but box office worthy...?
If someone says something about what they saw in one of these movies, take the chance to set them right. Use it for teaching.

Too much hate! But really, if they just made movies about Pagans and Witches, how we really are, what would it be?

COMING SOON Dawn had to work late, the dog ate her candles and the cat shed all over her robes. Will she make it to Esbat on time???? Dun Dun DUNNNN. Oh no! Amber's kid got in trouble for smudging his bunk at summer camp after they freaked him out with the ghost stories. They just don't believe he wasn't smoking that sage. Stay tuned for the dramatic conclusion!

There are some good Pagan novelists appearing on the scene. We need some good Pagan directors. I am not against throwing some interesting supernatural stuff into the storyline (because real life Pagans are boring, let's face it) but a little reality never killed anyone either.

I haven't heard of The Covenant yet but these movies don't do much for us except perpetuate the negative stereotype of Pagans. But there are always going to be those close-minded "Christians" whose views will never change, even if Hollywood made a movie about what being Pagan/Wiccan/Witch is really about. I just shake my head and ignore it--it's not worth the headache.

I'm going to be stoned for this, but I did like that movie "The Craft". The first half of it, before they got all pissed off and power crazy, was closer to wicca that allot of other stuff. Yeah, the Hollywood special effects were at work with some of it, but it wasn't all that bad. It was what lead me to want to read more on witchcraft as a whole. I had been interested before that movie, and knew what I saw was mostly crap, so I wanted to find out for myself what it was really all about. I'm glad I did. My wanting to know more lead me to fine books by Scott Cunningham, Ray Buckland and others.

So, yeah, when Hollywood cranks out another teenage horror flick with pagan undertones, I cringe, but maybe somewhere someone will see the movie and want to be enlightened and pick up a book to open their eyes.

And the new movie Scoop, too! A Tarot serial killer? I felt so insulted when I saw the commercial for it, even though I don't do Tarot.

I don't let things such as a movie bother me. While I dislike things such as "The Craft" or -eghad!- "Charmed", there's really not much that one can do about it. Hollywood has more pull than many of us over what gets on the screen and what doesn't. Don't waste good energy fuming over a silly movie. Ignore it, its fanfare and the troglodytes it causes to surface from Earth's depths. It will eventually fizzle out anyway. By not wasting your energy on worrying about something you really have no control over, you can direct your energies to where they are better suited and best needed.

I haven't heard of that one, but I do agree that the movie industry is partially to blame for spreading misconceptions. What scares me the most about these movies is that there are people who see these movies and think that that is all it is to being pagan. They start to fool around with magicks that they don't understand, which can potentially lead to them accidentally hurting themselves or someone else. They fail to understand that it is more spiritual than what the movie portrays.

These movies are made strictly for entertainment purposes. They do the research, then elaborate for the thrill factor. Anyone who knows Wicca will see the obvious discrepancies.

Hello Friend; One doesnt have to be a pagan to disapprove a type of film, or book, or theatre or act. Sincerely

no point in hating, just try to pass along the truth, its sort of like people always asking me if wicca is really anything like that silly tv show with those three airheads and all the deamons, its hard for them to understand that none of that junk really happens.then when i discribe a ritual they say, well thats nothing evil, and i just smile.
